Detta enligt ett par f\u00e4rska enk\u00e4ter.<\/em><\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>I m\u00e5nga kurser saknas PM och analyser<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>Som en del av kvalitetsarbetet p\u00e5 KTH p\u00e5g\u00e5r f\u00f6r n\u00e4rvarande analys av v\u00e5ra utbildningsprogram, inklusive v\u00e5ra doktorsprogram. I samband med det blir det tydligt att vi beh\u00f6ver f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttra v\u00e5ra rutiner vad g\u00e4ller kursanalyser d\u00e5 endast ett f\u00e5tal s\u00e5dana \u00e4r publicerade. Detta problem r\u00f6r kurser p\u00e5 alla niv\u00e5er, men det f\u00f6refaller vara extra l\u00e4tt att missa denna rutin n\u00e4r det g\u00e4ller forskarutbildningskurserna (FU-kurser). Utan tillg\u00e5ng till aktuella kursanalyser blir det sv\u00e5rt att f\u00f6lja upp och utv\u00e4rdera v\u00e5ra utbildningar s\u00e5 jag vill d\u00e4rf\u00f6r uppmuntra alla ber\u00f6rda att kontrollera att kursanalyser verkligen laddas upp. I samband med detta kan ocks\u00e5 n\u00e4mnas att det f\u00f6r en hel del kurser \u00e4ven saknas kurs-pm, n\u00e5got som ocks\u00e5 ska finnas f\u00f6r v\u00e5ra FU-kurser.<\/p>\n<h3>Studenter anser att handledningen kan f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttras<\/h3>\n<p>Vad g\u00e4ller forskarutbildningen har det under senaste tiden ocks\u00e5 genomf\u00f6rts en hel del arbete baserat p\u00e5 de doktorandenk\u00e4ter som genomf\u00f6rts, av KTH:s Gemensamma Verksamhetsst\u00f6d respektive studentk\u00e5ren. I m\u00e5nga avseenden visar enk\u00e4tresultaten att forskarutbildningen \u00e4r attraktiv och fungerar v\u00e4l, men det finns ocks\u00e5 ett antal omr\u00e5den som \u00e4r i behov av f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttring. Ett s\u00e5dant omr\u00e5de \u00e4r handledning d\u00e4r vi kan se att ett antal doktorander uppfattar att de inte f\u00e5r erforderligt st\u00f6d fr\u00e5n sina handledare. En underliggande orsak till detta problem \u00e4r att det verkar finnas stora skillnader vad g\u00e4ller handledningsrutiner, s\u00e5v\u00e4l mellan olika doktorsprogram som mellan olika handledare.<\/p>\n<p>Jag ser att vi fram\u00f6ver beh\u00f6ver arbeta aktivt p\u00e5 ITM med denna fr\u00e5ga. F\u00f6rst och fr\u00e4mst beh\u00f6ver vi f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttra informationen till nyantagna doktorander om de regler och rutiner som finns avseende handledning och p\u00e5 s\u00e5 s\u00e4tt skapa en klar och gemensam bild av vad som f\u00f6rv\u00e4ntas av s\u00e5v\u00e4l handledare som forskarstuderande. Dessutom beh\u00f6ver vi lyfta fram goda exempel bland v\u00e5ra handledare och se till att deras metoder och arbetss\u00e4tt sprids \u00f6ver skolan.<\/p>\n<h3>Handledarutbildning f\u00f6r att till\u00e4mpa nya regler<\/h3>\n<p>Ytterligare ett steg mot en kvalitetss\u00e4kring av handledningen \u00e4r att det sedan kort tid tillbaka kr\u00e4vs genomg\u00e5ngen handledningskurs f\u00f6r att fungera som bihandledare. Om du i nul\u00e4get \u00e4r bihandledare eller avser att ta p\u00e5 dig en s\u00e5dan roll fram\u00f6ver \u00e4r det allts\u00e5 h\u00f6g tid att genomg\u00e5 avsedd handledarutbildning om du inte redan gjort s\u00e5. D\u00e5 det kan dr\u00f6ja lite innan alla ber\u00f6rda hunnit med att l\u00e4sa kursen \u00e4r till\u00e4mpningen av det nya regelverket \u00e4nnu inte helt strikt, men successivt kommer detta att sk\u00e4rpas.<\/p>\n<h3>Doktorander efterfr\u00e5gar kurser som rustar dem f\u00f6r n\u00e4ringslivet<\/h3>\n<p>En annan insikt fr\u00e5n de genomf\u00f6rda enk\u00e4tunders\u00f6kningarna \u00e4r att forskarutbildningarna f\u00f6rbereder v\u00e5ra doktorander v\u00e4l f\u00f6r en karri\u00e4r som forskare, men att det av m\u00e5nga efterfr\u00e5gas fler inslag av projektledning, entrepren\u00f6rskap och kommersialisering av forskning. M\u00f6jligheten att erbjuda nya doktorandkurser inom dessa omr\u00e5den \u00e4r definitivt n\u00e5got som beh\u00f6ver unders\u00f6kas i v\u00e5rt arbete med att f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttra utbildningarna. Sannolikt kommer behovet av forskarutbildade \u00f6ka utanf\u00f6r akademin och vi beh\u00f6ver d\u00e4rf\u00f6r se till att vi i \u00e4nnu h\u00f6gre grad \u00e4n idag f\u00f6rbereder v\u00e5ra doktorer f\u00f6r karri\u00e4rer i n\u00e4ringslivet likv\u00e4l som f\u00f6r en framtid i akademin.<\/p>\n<p>\/ Mats Magnusson, Forskarutbildningsansvarig vid ITM-skolan<\/p>\n<h2>Third-cycle education is quality reviewed<\/h2>\n<div class=\"lead lead-paragraph\"><em>Many doctoral students are satisfied with the programs at KTH, but there is room for improvements in terms of supervision and courses that enable a career in industry. This is according to two recent surveys.<\/em><\/div>\n<h3><strong>PM and analyses are missing for many courses<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As part of the quality work at KTH, analysis of our educational programs, including our doctoral programs, is currently underway. In connection to this, it is clear that we need to improve our routines regarding course analyses as only a few of these are published. This problem concerns courses at all levels, but it seems particularly easy to miss this routine when it comes to doctoral courses. Without access to current course analyses, it will be difficult to follow up and evaluate our educations, so I would like to encourage everyone involved to upload your course analyses. Additionally, many courses do not have a course PM, something that should be available also for our doctoral courses.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Students state that supervision can be improved<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>With regard to the doctoral program, much work has recently been performed based on two recent doctoral student surveys that have been carried out by KTH Gemensamt Verksamhetsst\u00f6d and the student union, respectively. In many respects, the survey results show that the third-cycle education is attractive and works well, but there are also a number of areas that need improvement. One such area is supervision, where we can see that a number of doctoral students perceive that they do not receive the necessary support from their supervisors. An underlying reason for this problem is that there seem to be large differences in terms of supervision routines, both between different doctoral programs and between different supervisors.<\/p>\n<p>I see that we at ITM need to work actively with this issue in the future. Primarily, we need to improve the information to new doctoral students about the rules and routines regarding supervision, and in this way create a clear and common picture of what is expected from both supervisors and doctoral students. In addition, we need to highlight good examples among our supervisors and ensure that their methods are spread across the school.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Supervisor training to apply new rules<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Since a short time, a completed supervision course is required for all new co-supervisors. This is another step towards quality assurance of the supervision. If you are currently a co-supervisor or intend to take on such a role in the future, it is high time to undergo this supervisor training, if you have not already done so. As it may take a while until everyone had the time to take the course, the application of the new regulations is not yet completely strict, but this will gradually be implemented.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Doctoral students call for courses that prepare them for industry<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Another insight from the surveys is that the doctoral programs prepare our students well for a career as a researcher, but that many request more elements of project management, entrepreneurship and commercialization of research. The opportunity to offer new doctoral courses in these areas is definitely something that needs to be investigated in our work to improve the educations. The need for doctoral graduates is likely to increase outside academia and we need to ensure that we prepare our doctors for careers in industry as well as for a future in academia, to an even greater degree than today.<\/p>\n<p>\/ Mats Magnusson, Director of Third-cycle education at ITM<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In English further down.
