Hans\u00a0track record\u00a0i boxning var, och \u00e4r, mycket bra och han har blivit flitigt citerad tack vare det d\u00e4r citatet.<\/p>\n<p>I den akademiska v\u00e4rlden d\u00e4remot, \u00e4r det inte lika vanligt att man g\u00f6r dylika uttalanden om sin egen f\u00f6rm\u00e5ga. Ist\u00e4llet bed\u00f6ms den enskilda forskningsprestationen utifr\u00e5n m\u00e4tbara kvantiteter s\u00e5som citeringar av artiklar etc. Dessutom \u00e4r det olika rankningsorganisationer s\u00e5som THE, QS, US News, World Report och ARWU som bed\u00f6mer hur bra ett universitet \u00e4r. Rankingen\u00a0baseras i sin tur\u00a0p\u00e5 ett antal viktiga prestandaindex som inkluderar utbildningens kvalitet, fakultetens kvalitet, forskningsresultat och s\u00e5 vidare.<\/p>\n<p>Hatef Madani ansvarar f\u00f6r impactarbetet p\u00e5 ITM. Han har under h\u00f6sten samlat in forskningsdata kring publiceringar fr\u00e5n ITM:s olika institutioner och h\u00e5ller f\u00f6r n\u00e4rvarande p\u00e5 att presentera detta f\u00f6r varje institution. Och sj\u00e4lvklart blir den naturliga fr\u00e5gan: vem presterar b\u00e4st?<\/p>\n<p>Svaret\u00a0\u00e4r: det beror p\u00e5 vad du fokuserar p\u00e5:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Institutionen f\u00f6r Industriell produktion (IIP) har den h\u00f6gsta genomsnittliga citationsfaktorn p\u00e5 1,59.<\/li>\n<li>Institutionen f\u00f6r H\u00e5llbar produktion\u00a0har den h\u00f6gsta andelen topp 10% citerade artiklar (31%).<\/li>\n<li>Institutionen f\u00f6r Energiteknik\u00a0har den h\u00f6gsta andelen publikationer i topp 20% rankade tidskrifter (33%).<\/li>\n<li>Institutionen f\u00f6r Materialvetenskap har flest publikationer (720).<\/li>\n<li>Institutionen f\u00f6r Maskinteknik har den h\u00f6gsta andelen sampublikationer med kollegor som inte \u00e4r verksamma p\u00e5 universitet, dvs huvudsakligen med kollegor i industrin <span style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;\">(23%).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sj\u00e4lvutv\u00e4rderingar baserat p\u00e5 bland annat rankningsstatistik som h\u00e4r ovan, anv\u00e4nds vid \u00e5rets forskningsutv\u00e4rdering. Rektor vill att varje institution, ja varje forskare, ska bidra till att h\u00f6ja kvaliteten s\u00e5 att KTH kan bibeh\u00e5lla sin h\u00f6ga ranking i v\u00e4rlden. Det blir sp\u00e4nnande att se resultatet av utv\u00e4rderingarna i slutet av augusti.<\/p>\n<p>Till sist vill jag s\u00e4ga att det \u00e4r fantastiskt att uppleva hur dagarna blir l\u00e4ngre och hur naturen b\u00f6rjar vakna. Jag \u00e4r s\u00e4ker p\u00e5 att m\u00e5nga av er g\u00f6r som jag och tar tillf\u00e4llet i akt att ta promenader i naturen f\u00f6r att uppleva hur blommor tittar upp ur marken och se hur f\u00e5glar \u00e4r upptagna med att bygga sina bon. Allt \u00e4r tecken p\u00e5 att vi l\u00e5ngsamt g\u00e5r mot en ljusare framtid&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>\/P\u00e4r J\u00f6nsson, Skolchef<\/p>\n<h2><strong>I am the greatest<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Dear colleagues,<\/p>\n<p>In 1964 the world-famous boxer Muhammad Ali claimed that \u201c<em>I am the greatest<\/em>.\u201d His track record in boxing is very good, and he has received many citations based on that speech.<\/p>\n<p>In the academic world, we seldom see people that stand up and make a similar statement. Instead, the individual research performance is judged by measurable quantities such as citations of papers, etc. Moreover, the ranking of a university is made by different ranking organisations: THE, QS, US News and World Report, and ARWU. These are based on a number of key performance indexes, including the quality of education, quality of faculty, research output, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Hatef Madani is responsible for the impact work at ITM. He has collected data of research output from the different departments at ITM. He is currently presenting this information to the departments. Well, then the natural question is who the best performing department is?<\/p>\n<p>The answer is as follows, depending on what you focus on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The department of Industrial Production (IIP) has the highest average citation factor of 1.59.<\/li>\n<li>The Department of Sustainable Production has the highest percentage of top 10% cited papers (31%).<\/li>\n<li>The Department of Energy Technology has the highest share of publications in the top 20% ranked journals (33%).<\/li>\n<li>The Department of Materials Science and Engineering has the highest number of publications (720).<\/li>\n<li>The Department of Machine Design has the highest share of non-university co-publications (23%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Self-evaluations made by the departments based on among other things ranking statistics such as that presented above are used in the 2021 research evaluation. The President&#8217;s purpose is that each department and each researcher should find a way of increasing the quality so that KTH\u2019s ranking in the world remains high. It will be exciting to see the result of the evaluations at the end of August.<\/p>\n<p>As a final word, I wish to say that it is fantastic to experience how the days become longer and how nature starts to wake up. I am sure that many of you do as I and take the opportunity to take walks in nature to experience how flowers emerge from the ground and to watch birds being busy building their nests.
