Han skriver ocks\u00e5 om behovet av nya kurser, inte minst inom etik, JML och h\u00e5llbarhet &#8211; kurser som kommer att vara gemensamma f\u00f6r alla KTH-skolor.<\/div>\n<p>Forskarutbildningen p\u00e5 ITM-skolan syftar i v\u00e4ldigt h\u00f6g utstr\u00e4ckning till att utveckla experter inom v\u00e5ra specifika forskningsomr\u00e5den. Det \u00e4r s\u00e5ledes av stor vikt att v\u00e5ra doktorsprogram \u00e4r s\u00e5 flexibla att de kan anpassas till den enskilde studentens behov av kurser. F\u00f6r att m\u00f6jligg\u00f6ra f\u00f6r studenter och handledare att designa individuella studieplaner beh\u00f6vs ett tillr\u00e4ckligt utbud av olika FU-kurser och dessutom att dessa ges regelbundet. Vi har under en l\u00e4ngre tid arbetat med att ta bort inaktuella kurser och inr\u00e4tta nya. F\u00f6rhoppningsvis kommer detta p\u00e5 sikt g\u00f6ra det enklare att planera forskarutbildningens kursdel och i slut\u00e4ndan underl\u00e4tta f\u00f6r alla ber\u00f6rda.<\/p>\n<h3>Etik, h\u00e5llbarhet och JML utvecklas<\/h3>\n<p>En annan viktig del av forskarutbildningen \u00e4r att utveckla kunskap och f\u00e4rdigheter som ger en bra bas f\u00f6r att kunna verka som forskare. Tre omr\u00e5den som vi beh\u00f6ver ge mer uppm\u00e4rksamhet \u00e4r etik, h\u00e5llbarhet och JML. \u00c4ven h\u00e4r finns behov av nya kurser. Behoven \u00e4r i stort sett desamma \u00f6ver de olika doktorsprogrammen och d\u00e4rf\u00f6r vill vi inom en inte alltf\u00f6r avl\u00e4gsen framtid genomf\u00f6ra skolgemensamma grundkurser p\u00e5 doktorsprogrammen. I dessa kurser kommer etik, h\u00e5llbarhet och JML att utg\u00f6ra centrala delar.<\/p>\n<h3>Nya etiska dilemman<\/h3>\n<p>I synnerhet etikfr\u00e5gor orsakar oss forskare allt mer huvudbry. Vid f\u00f6rsta anblicken kan detta k\u00e4nnas som n\u00e5got som endast \u00e4r relevant f\u00f6r forskning som inbegriper experiment med djur och\/eller m\u00e4nniskor, men vid en noggrannare analys ser vi en rad problemomr\u00e5den med relevans f\u00f6r oss alla, exempelvis datahantering (GDPR) och plagiat. Dessa fr\u00e5gor \u00e4r i sig ofta komplicerade, men vad vi nu ser \u00e4r ytterligare problem som \u00e4r \u00e4nnu sv\u00e5rare att f\u00f6rh\u00e5lla sig till. H\u00e4r kan n\u00e4mnas allt oftare f\u00f6rekommande \u201dpredator journals\u201d &#8211; tidskrifter som tar ut en avgift f\u00f6r publicering och som vid en n\u00e4rmare granskning visar sig ha v\u00e4ldigt korta granskningstider, h\u00f6ga acceptansniv\u00e5er och, som resultat av detta, artiklar av tvivelaktig eller rentav usel kvalitet. Flera av dessa tidskrifter ser p\u00e5 ytan h\u00f6gst respektabla ut och de uppvisar ofta imponerande impact factor. Att vi i Sverige inte har n\u00e5gra fastst\u00e4llda rankinglistor \u00f6ver vetenskapliga journaler g\u00f6r svenska forskare s\u00e4rskilt utsatta f\u00f6r denna problematik och sv\u00e5rast att g\u00f6ra korrekta bed\u00f6mningar av journalkvalitet \u00e4r det givetvis f\u00f6r doktorander.<\/p>\n<h3>I v\u00e4ntan p\u00e5 gemensamma introduktionskurser<\/h3>\n<p>Jag ser fram emot att vi inom kort kan sj\u00f6s\u00e4tta gemensamma introduktionskurser i v\u00e5r forskarutbildning f\u00f6r att p\u00e5 ett \u00e4nnu b\u00e4ttre s\u00e4tt kunna ta oss an s\u00e5v\u00e4l etikfr\u00e5gor som gr\u00e4ns\u00f6verskridande problematik avseende h\u00e5llbarhet och JML och p\u00e5 s\u00e5 s\u00e4tt f\u00f6rbereda v\u00e5ra doktorander f\u00f6r framtida karri\u00e4rer p\u00e5 b\u00e4sta m\u00f6jliga s\u00e4tt. Tills detta \u00e4r p\u00e5 plats vill jag uppmana s\u00e5v\u00e4l erfarna kollegor som doktorander att engagera sig i en kontinuerlig diskussion om vilka journaler vi b\u00f6r publicera i och vilka vi b\u00f6r h\u00e5lla oss borta ifr\u00e5n.<\/p>\n<p>\/ Mats Magnusson, Forskarutbildningsansvarig vid ITM-skolan<\/p>\n<h2><strong>\u201cPredator journals\u201d and common courses<\/strong><\/h2>\n<div class=\"lead lead-paragraph\">Watch out for \u201dpredator journals\u201d, warns Mats Magnusson, Director of Third-Cycle Education(FA) in his blog. He also writes about the need of new courses, not the least in ethics, JML and sustainability &#8211; courses that will be the same for all KTH schools.<\/div>\n<p>The third-cycle education at the ITM School aims to develop experts in our specific research areas. Thus, it\u2019s of great importance that our doctoral programs are flexible enough to be adapted to the individual student&#8217;s needs for courses. To enable students and supervisors to design individual study plans, a sufficient range of different courses is needed, and it\u2019s also important that these are given regularly. We have been working for a long time to remove outdated courses and set up new ones. Hopefully, in the long run, this will make it easier to plan the course the doctoral program\u2019s courses and ultimately make it easier for everyone involved.<\/p>\n<h3>Ethics, sustainability, and JML in phocus<\/h3>\n<p>Another important part of the third-cycle education is to develop knowledge and skills that provide a good basis for being able to work as a researcher. Three areas that we need to pay more attention to are ethics, sustainability, and JML. Here, too, there is a need for new courses. The needs are largely the same across the various doctoral programs and therefore, in a not-too-distant future, we want to implement basic courses on the doctoral programs common for all schools. In these courses, ethics, sustainability, and JML will be key elements.<\/p>\n<h3>New ethical dilemmas<\/h3>\n<p>Ethical issues, in particular, are causing us researchers more and more headaches. At first glance, this may feel like something that is only relevant for research involving experiments on animals and\/or humans, but we see a number of problem areas relevant to us all, such as data management (GDPR) and plagiarism. These issues are often complicated in themselves, but now we see additional problems that are even more difficult to relate to. Increasingly common are &#8220;predator journals&#8221; &#8211; journals that charge a fee for publication and which on closer inspection turn out to have very short review times, high acceptance levels, and, as a result, articles of dubious or even lousy quality. Several of these journals look highly respectable at a first glance and they often show an impressive impact factor. The fact that we in Sweden don\u2019t have established ranking lists of scientific journals makes Swedish researchers particularly vulnerable to this problem and it is of course most difficult for doctoral students to make correct assessments of journal journals.<\/p>\n<h3>Waiting for common introductory courses<\/h3>\n<p>I look forward to launching joint introductory courses in our doctoral studies soon in order to be able to address ethical issues as well as cross-border issues regarding sustainability and JML in an even better way, thus preparing our doctoral students for future careers in the best possible way.
