M\u00e5nga l\u00e4rare har, precis som jag, njutit av att undervisa i klassrum igen eftersom interaktionen mellan oss och eleverna blir s\u00e5 mycket st\u00f6rre j\u00e4mf\u00f6rt med i zoomundervisning. Men vi har \u00e4ven l\u00e4rt oss mycket av perioden d\u00e5 de flesta kurserna var digitala. Alla l\u00e4rare har \u00e4ndrat sina s\u00e4tt att undervisa, och m\u00e5nga kommer att beh\u00e5lla sina nyutvecklade digitala koncept fram\u00f6ver. Nu \u00e4r det dags att l\u00e4ra av varandra f\u00f6r att p\u00e5skynda anpassningen av undervisningen till ett digitalt samh\u00e4lle. Jag tycker att livsl\u00e5ngt l\u00e4rande med digitala metoder \u00e4r extra sp\u00e4nnande!<\/p>\n<p>Jag h\u00f6rde nyligen om ett gott exempel fr\u00e5n en annan skola d\u00e4r bitr\u00e4dande professor Johan Jansson lyckades \u00f6ka antalet studenter fr\u00e5n 20 till 10 000 (!) per \u00e5r n\u00e4r han gav kursen High Performance Finite Element Modeling p\u00e5 edX som en digital kurs. Detta \u00e4r ett imponerande exempel p\u00e5 hur digitalisering kan hj\u00e4lpa l\u00e4rare att n\u00e5 en st\u00f6rre grupp och \u00f6ka KTH:s inflytande.<\/p>\n<p>I ITM:s ledning forts\u00e4tter vi med v\u00e5ra m\u00f6ten som vanligt och vi tr\u00e4ffas varannan vecka. D\u00e5 brukar jag ber\u00e4tta om mina m\u00f6ten med rektor medan prefekter och administrativa chefen delar information fr\u00e5n sina verksamheter. Vi har m\u00e5nga aktuella och planerade aktiviteter. Vi h\u00e5ller dig uppdaterad genom v\u00e5rt nyhetsbrev, intran\u00e4t och APT-m\u00f6ten.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/intra.kth.se\/itm\/om-itm-skolan\/protokoll-ledningsgruppsmoten-itm-1.949541\">Protokoll fr\u00e5n ledningsgruppsm\u00f6ten<\/a><\/p>\n<p>En viktig aktivitet som jag s\u00e4rskilt vill peka p\u00e5 \u00e4r arbetet med att skapa en ny stark insitution f\u00f6r produktion genom sammanslagningen av institutionerna f\u00f6r industriell produktion och h\u00e5llbar produktionsutveckling. Som ni nog k\u00e4nner till leder professor Magnus Wiktorsson det arbetet. Han har haft m\u00e5nga diskussioner med medarbetare p\u00e5 b\u00e5da institutionerna och med representanter fr\u00e5n industrin. H\u00e4r om dagen tr\u00e4ffade till exempel jag och Magnus representanter fr\u00e5n Scania. De gladde sig \u00f6ver KTH:s ambitioner att st\u00e4rka utbildning och forskning inom produktion, eftersom det i sin tur kommer att gynna Scania. Senare i \u00e5r, n\u00e4r arbetet har blivit mer strukturerat, kommer Magnus dela med sig av sina tankar och utvecklingen i en separat blogg.<\/p>\n<p>Nu \u00f6ver till lite naturreflektioner. Under distansarbete har en del uppt\u00e4ckt att naturen \u00e4r en fantastisk plats f\u00f6r reflektioner och avkoppling efter en hel dag med zoomm\u00f6ten. Jag tror att m\u00e5nga av oss kommer att forts\u00e4tta bes\u00f6ka naturen \u00e4ven n\u00e4r arbetet \u00e4r normalt igen. Jag kan starkt rekommendera att packa en mats\u00e4ck och g\u00f6ra en tur till skogen f\u00f6r att plocka lite av det \u00f6verfl\u00f6d av svampar som finns den h\u00e4r tiden p\u00e5 \u00e5ret. I helgen fick jag ihop en liten korg med l\u00e4ckerheter, som ni ser p\u00e5 bilden. F\u00f6r dig som inte \u00e4r s\u00e5 erfaren inom &#8220;svampjakt&#8221; \u00e4r den sj\u00e4lvklara fr\u00e5gan, hur hittar jag svampen? Jag \u00e4r ingen expert, men jag kan dela med mig av en erfarenhet fr\u00e5n i h\u00f6st. F\u00f6lj de uppb\u00f6kade sp\u00e5ren efter vildsvinen! Det finns goda chanser att du hittar din sk\u00f6rd i omr\u00e5det d\u00e4r de redan har b\u00f6kat efter svamp, eftersom de v\u00e4xer s\u00e5 snabbt!<\/p>\n<p>\/P\u00e4r J\u00f6nsson, ITM:s skolchef<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Back to normal and mushroom hunts!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Dear colleagues,<\/p>\n<p>We have experienced a drastic change in activities here at KTH when the government has decided that society should open up again. Many teachers like me have found that it is fantastic to teach in a classroom again since the interactions between students and the teacher become so much more active compared to only performing education using zoom. Nevertheless, we have learned so much from the period when most of the teaching took place in digital rooms. <em>All<\/em> teachers have changed their ways of teaching, and many will keep some newly developed digital concepts even in the future. Now it is time to learn from each other to speed up the adaptation of the teaching to a digital society. Especially the life-long-learning possibilities using digital methods is exciting.<\/p>\n<p>I have seen examples from another school where Assistant Professor Johan Jansson increased the number of students from 20 to 10\u00a0000 (!) per year when providing the course <em>High-Performance Finite Element Modeling <\/em>on edX as a digital course. This is an imposing example of how digitalization can help teachers reach a larger audience and improve KTH&#8217;s impact.<\/p>\n<p>On a daily basis, the ITM management continues to run our meetings as usual. We meet in the management group every second week. Here, I provide information from the meetings with the President and the Department Heads, and the Administrative Head includes information from their activities. We have many ongoing and planned activities. We will keep you informed in our newsletter and through your usual channels in the unit meetings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/intra.kth.se\/itm\/om-itm-skolan\/protokoll-ledningsgruppsmoten-itm-1.949541\">Protocols from ITM management meetings (Swedish)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>An important activity that I wish to stress is the ongoing work on creating a new strong department focusing on production through a merger of the Department of Production Engineering and the Department of Sustainable Production Development. As you know, Professor Magnus Wiktorsson leads this work. He has had many discussions with employees in both departments and with representatives from the industry. As an example, yesterday Magnus and I met with representatives from Scania. They were happy to hear about KTH&#8217;s ambitions to strengthen the production area&#8217;s education and research, which will benefit Scania. We will let Magnus share his views later this year in a separate blog when the work has become more structured to keep you updated on this development.<\/p>\n<p>Now over to some nature thoughts. During remote work, some people have discovered that nature is a fantastic place to enjoy reflections and relaxation after a full day of zoom meetings. I think many of us will keep visiting nature even when work is back to normal. I recommend packing some food and making a trip to the forests to collect some of the abundance of mushrooms available this time of the season. This weekend I gathered some lovely mushrooms, as seen from the enclosed picture. For you who are not so experienced in &#8220;mushroom hunting,&#8221; the obvious question is, how do I find mushrooms? I am not an expert, but I wish to share an experience I got this fall. Follow the diggings of the wild boars!
