Maybe you know them already from their blue overalls – THS MAIN is one of the three organisations under the umbrella of THS International. Recently, the organisation has elected their new president Carolin who will be responsible during the academic year 2021/2022. Carolin is from Germany and will start into her second year of the master’s programme in Medical Engineering in the upcoming Fall semester. I have talked to her about THS MAIN and what plans they have for the next study periods 🎓

What is THS MAIN and what do you do as an organisation?

Carolin: THS MAIN is the Masters’ and International student group of THS (Student Union at KTH) aimed to create fantastic events, build a close-knit and open family, and serve as representation for international students at KTH.

What do you do as the president of MAIN?

Carolin: The president oversees and moderates the Board’s activity and represents MAIN towards THS and KTH. Besides the president, the Board currently includes one treasurer, one marketing manager and four event managers.

What kind of events are you offering for students? And do you already have plans for the next semester?

Carolin: We organise a variety of events so that there is something for everyone. Typical events are hikes, quiz nights, Gasques (traditional Swedish student dinner) or trips to Osqvik, the cabin of the student union. We also organise a weekly board games evening, which hopefully can take place again next year after we had to pause it the last months due to the pandemic.

In August, we will organise some events during the THS International Reception for the new students. From September, we will definitely go back to organising one or two events per week for the whole semester, after we understand how the situation develops and what we will be allowed to do!

How can students get involved? And why should students get involved?

Carolin: There are different levels of involvement, but what is sure is that everyone is always welcome to be as involved as they want to. The most basic level is simply attending the events we organise, which is a great way to meet new people and have fun! But if you want to get more involved, you could be part of our MAINees family by simply attending one of our free-to-join Members’ Meetings. Doing so, you will become a THS MAIN Member and you will be able to sign up for helping at our events or even get involved in organising them with our Event Managers. That’s the best way to get to know how THS MAIN works and make lots of friends! Of course you could even get more involved and join the Board or one of our standing Committees (for example the Marketing committee which manages THS MAIN’s social media with the help of the Marketing Manager!)

I’m sure many students are wondering about this: what do you have to do to get a blue overall?

Carolin: Just join us for a Member’s Meeting at the beginning of next semester! It will be possible to try them on and order one.

Follow us on Instagram (@ths.main), on Facebook or sign up to our Newsletter to keep yourself always updated on our events, news, Members’ Meetings and so much more! You can also click here to find all the info!

I hope you could get some insights into THS MAIN 😊 The organization is a great way to get to know other people, know matter if you’re an international student or a local student!

Have a great week!
