That&#8217;s totally normal! I was in your shoes about two years ago when I found out I had been admitted to KTH. I still remember the pure joy of sharing the news with my family.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But soon after that joy came the flood of thoughts like, <em>\u201cCan I really do this?\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cHow do I afford this?\u201d<\/em> There didn\u2019t seem to be a clear guide on what to do next, how long everything would take, or even where to start. Looking back, I realise that I worried way more than necessary\u2014because help was available every step of the way.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let me walk you through what I did after getting admitted. The best place to begin is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kth.se\/en\/student\/studier\/newatkth\/welcome-to-kth-1.703656\">New at KTH<\/a> website\u2014it&#8217;s a goldmine of information for newly admitted students.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At different stages, I reached out for help in different ways:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Goin\u2019 app<\/strong>: You\u2019ll get an invite link via email\/newsletter\u2014this helped me connect with other newly admitted students.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>LinkedIn<\/strong>: Great for finding current students and alumni from KTH.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Email<\/strong>: I contacted <code>info@kth.se<\/code> for formal queries and document requests\u2014they\u2019re super responsive.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Soon after admission results are out, you\u2019ll also receive emails from current students through the <em>Connect with a KTH student<\/em> project. I initially wanted to apply for a loan, and my bank required a certificate from KTH showing the total cost of studies. I emailed <code>info@kth.se<\/code>, and they sent me the certificate right away.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>invoice is usually available within a week<\/strong> after admission, and the <strong>payment deadline is 31 May<\/strong>\u2014so you\u2019ll want to act fast.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To apply for a residence permit, tuition needs to be paid first. Even though the Swedish Migration Agency requires proof of <strong>10,314 SEK per month<\/strong> in your bank account, the <em>realistic<\/em> amount you\u2019ll need can vary. I uploaded a few documents and a bank statement showing I could support myself during my studies. I applied in the <strong>last week of April<\/strong> from India.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shortly after applying, I got an email from the Swedish Embassy in Delhi to get my <strong>passport verified and biometrics recorded<\/strong>. I had to travel to New Delhi for this, but the process itself was smooth. My permit was granted quickly, and the <strong>residence permit card arrived in about 4 weeks<\/strong>. So by June, I had everything ready to go!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Apply as soon as possible<\/strong> to avoid delays. Some of my friends even secured accommodation through SSSB just by submitting their universityadmissions.se results as proof.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That said, I ended up getting housing through <strong>KTH Housing<\/strong>, which was super convenient because the rooms came furnished. It gave me time to prioritise, shop at my own pace, and ensure everything fit within the baggage allowance.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some essentials:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>A <strong>laptop<\/strong><\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Warm clothing<\/strong> (you\u2019ll thank yourself later!)<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Spices or food items from home<\/strong> (especially if you&#8217;re Indian\u2014trust me on this one!)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing I regret is not purchasing some electronics like earphones, a Bluetooth mouse, etc. Gadgets here are expensive compared to back home. I kept asking myself\u2014<em>Am I making the right decision?<\/em> <em>What are the job prospects after KTH?<\/em> <em>Will I be able to keep up academically after 5 years away from studies?<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These worries are normal. I reached out to students with similar backgrounds and that helped calm my nerves. What helped most, though, was believing in myself. Confidence goes a long way. And looking back now, I\u2019m happy to report\u2014I did <em>just fine<\/em> at KTH.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This experience has opened up so many doors for me, and it all started with taking that first leap.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other Things I Did Before Moving<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aside from the logistics and paperwork, I also did a few other things to make the transition smoother and more meaningful:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Started learning basic Swedish<\/strong> using free apps . It wasn\u2019t about becoming fluent, but picking up everyday words made me feel more prepared (and the Swedes definitely appreciate the effort!).<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Planned some quality time with family and friends<\/strong> before the big move. I knew I\u2019d be away for a while, so I made sure to create some special memories\u2014dinners, day trips, and just spending time together.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Made a personal Sweden bucket list<\/strong>\u2014things I dreamed of experiencing during my time there. Top of the list? <em>Seeing the Northern Lights<\/em>\u2014which I was lucky enough to tick off in the first month of my arrival!<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Backed up all important documents and files<\/strong> on both cloud storage and a physical hard drive. From academic records to passport copies, it was a lifesaver to have everything organised in one place.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Started following Swedish student and expat forums<\/strong> and Instagram accounts to get a feel for the culture, lifestyle, and tips from people already living there.
