There is an increasing interest in developing safe and efficient medicines derived from natural sources. In this sense, many phytotherapics medications have been used worldwide with pharmacological properties such as healing, anti-inflammatory, analgesic activities. The biopolymer-based dressing can have the effectiveness enhanced by incorporating phytotherapics compounds.
The objective of the seminar is to present some potential phytotherapics from the Brazilian flora that can be incorporated into chitosan films for application as wound healing dressings. A case study of dressings containing copaiba oil and aloe vera will also be discussed based on results ranging from physical and biological characterization to in vivo testing.
Classius Ferreira da Silva is an Associate Professor at the Federal University of São Paulo (Brazil), where Classius develops research with biopolymer applications, including active wound dressing, drug delivery systems, and active packaging systems.
