CE@KTH is delighted to invite you to attend the webinar entitled “A circular economy is about more than energy, materials and business models” with Ken Webster who is a visiting Fellow at Cranfield University and a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Auckland Business School. He explores an all scales circular economy and its implications.
In this webinar, Ken will focus on the role of technology in a circular economy. The existing economy is extractive on the monetary side as well as the materials and energy side. It is the outcome of the iteration of systems whose structure is rarely examined, especially by technologists! A circular economy, built on insights from living systems may be useful in a reorientation of the economy so that we really can speak of it being 'regenerative, accessible and abundant by design'. Technologists can help or hinder but not stand aside.

About the speaker
Ken Webster is a visiting Fellow at Cranfield University and a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Auckland Business School.
From 2010 - end 2018 he was Head of Innovation for the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, a circular economy pioneer organization, where he helped shape current notions of a ‘circular economy’.
His book The Circular Economy: A Wealth of Flows (2nd Edition 2017) relates the connections between systems thinking, economic and business opportunity and the transition to a circular economy. He makes regular contributions to conferences and seminars around the world. His current interests include; open vs closed circular economy approaches, construction and the built environment, extended producer ownership and materials data management. Ken is on the supervisory board of the Madaster Foundation in Amsterdam - a materials passport organisation.
His next book The Wonderful Circles of Oz (A Circular Economy Story) - coauthored with Alex Duff explores the notion of extractive vs circulatory economies and how to transition to the latter and will be published by Routledge Jul 2022.
