Webpage Development for Data Visualization (Student Assistant)

About the project:

Manufacturing and Metrology Systems (MMS) division at the Department of Production Engineering (IIP) focuses on circular manufacturing systems as one of its key research areas. MMS division is now looking for a research assistant who will be collaborating on the CIS Sotenäs project. This project supports the industrial and social symbiosis between local industries and the municipality in the Sotenäs Kommun to elevate local competences and maximize utilization of local resources. To achieve this, the CIS Sotenäs project aims to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, and transparency of the Industrial Symbiosis (IS) system in Sotenäs by implementing the Internet of Things (IoT). The primary purpose of this IoT-platform is information sharing across the IS system in Sotenäs which will allow stakeholders to share data. The IoT platform will distribute data and manage access rights to the data. The project partners include KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sotenäs Kommun, Machine recorder Sverige AB, and 10 participating companies in Sotenäs that support the project by providing information and access to their information systems.

Job description:

In this role, you will be working with a team of programmers, industry experts, and researchers creating a dynamic webpage to visualize the data gathered in the IoT platform. The candidate will work part-time equivalent to a maximum of 20% of full-time work.

Qualifications:

We are looking for a candidate in their 4th or 5th year of M.Sc. degree in computer scince or engineering or equivalent preferably at KTH. The candidate needs to have a working knowledge of creating webpages and common data visualization tools. In this role, you need to work as a team player and have a strong ability to deliver in your work. Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence and suitability. Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Experience and knowledge of developing webpages
  • Experience and knowledge of data visualization libraries and packages, e.g. Python (Matplotlib, Plotly, Seaborn, Bokeh, etc.), R (ggplot2, grid, etc.), or JavaScript (D3.js, Vega, Plotly, etc.)
  • Experience and knowledge of the circular economy and circular manufacturing systems is a plus
  • Swedish language skills is also a plus
