Professor Monica Ek, avdelningschef för Träkemi och Massateknologi.

 Massateknologin behandlar de olika processer och tekniker som används för att frilägga fibrer ur ved. Fibrerna används främst som råvara vid pappers- och massatillverkning men även andra produkter för t ex läkemedelsindustrin. Träkemin undersöker de kemiska reaktionerna som sker i dessa steg samt den morfologiska och kemiska strukturen hos fibrer i ved och produkter.

Water filters for refugee camps

On 21 March 2017, our division developed a portable, effective, and eco-friendly filter to deal with the drinking water safety issue in the tons of refugee camps all over the world. The wood fiber based filter can capture and kill the bacteria efficiently by a simple shake in the water, and the anti-bacteria technique has no problem with toxic chemical leaching compared with the conventional water purification methods. 1st Swedish Lignin Workshop 2017

During 16-17 March 2017, we organized the 1st Swedish Workshop on Lignin Chemistry, Processing and Valorization at RISE, Stockholm. The idea is to create a national forum for the young researchers and supervisors working within area of Lignin Chemistry research,and provide a platform to interact and cooperate. COST ACTION CONFERENCE 2017

During 7-9 March 2017, our division and COST-European Cooperation in Science and Technology organized the COST Action FP1205 Conference on Cellulosic material properties and industrial potential at KTH, Stockholm, Sweden. The topic involved in Dissolution and regeneration of cellulose, Science and uses of nanocellulose,& Cellulose foams and films.

Best Posters winners in COST ACTION CONFERENCE 2017

Tiinamari Seppänen, a master student at our division, won the 1st Prize, and Andreas Fall, a researcher at RISE, got the 2nd Best Poster Prize. Congratulations!

Biofiber Chemistry course study tour 2016

On 13 December 2016, our division organized a study tour of Biofiber Chemistry course, and we hoped the students can have the opportunity to learn about forest industry-one of Sweden’s most important base industries. 

Study visit-Tumba Papermill Museum

On 6 December 2016, we organised a study tour in Tumba Papermill Museum. Students had the chance to know about the traditional papermaking process and development of the Swedish forest industry.

Best Poster Award in the Guangzhou Papermaking Conference 2016

On 9 November 2016,Tianxiao Huang(PhD student) won the Best Poster Award in the 5th International Symposium on Papermaking .He evaluated Hydrophobic Coating on Textile by Bark Extractives, which explored the value-added application of a side stream product from forest industry.

Top Prize in the KTH Materials Day 2016

On 11 November 2016, Anna Ottenhall(PhD student) got the Top Prize(10,000 kr) in the PhD student pitch competition at KTH Materials Day 2016 as a result of her best performance to introduce her project-drinking water sterilization by antibacterial fibers.

2nd place in Young Researchers Competition 

On 10 October 2016, Anna Ottenhall(PhD student)got the 2nd place in the Young Researchers Pitch Competition during the Marcus Wallenberg Prize 2016 Conference. She introduced an easy and cheap way to sterilize drinking water using antibacterial fibers. Learn more-abstract of her poster

Our novel nanocrystalline cellulose technique won the Entrepreneur Program

On 14 October 2016, Researchers at our division won the KTH's new accelerator program for entrepreneurs - Bicky Chakraborty Entrepreneur Program, because we have developed a new process for the inexpensive and efficient production of nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC), a renewable material with application areas as reinforcement, barriers or filler in package or automotive industries. This technique contributes to a startup of the company Fine Cell . Team members: Dongfang Li, Jonathan Henschen and Monica Ek. Learn more.

Forskare deltog i Mentor4Research 2015

Under 2015 har forskaren Josefin Illergård deltagit i IVAs mentorprogram Mentor4Research. Programmet strävar efter att vara en katalysator för kommersialisering av forskning genom att forskarna får ta del av erfarenheter från äringslivet genom sina mentorer. Den nationella finalen hölls den 12 november där adepter och mentorer fick en chans att ta del av varandras erfarenheter. Läs mer här.

KTH-monter på SPCIs höstmöte 2015

Träkemi- och massateknologi arrangerade en monter på SPCIs höstmöte 2015, en mötesplats för massa- och pappersindustrin. I montern fick besökarna ta del av forskningen som bedrivs på KTH dels via en fotoutställning och dels via spännande materialdemonstratorer. Bland besökarna fanns bland annat fd finansminister Anders Borg, som visades runt av doktorand Jonatan Henschen.

Ny Licentiana

Den 13 november 2015 Danila Morais de Carvalho defensed hennes licentiatavhandling (Undersökning om struktur och egenskaper xylan utvinns ur eukalyptus, sockerrör bagass och sockerrör halm). grattis!

CELLULOSE MATERIALS DOCTORAL STUDENTS SUMMER CONFERENCE 2015
