CST - What is it about?

Computational Science and Technology is a multidisciplinary field that uses advanced computing methodologies to understand and solve complex problems.

Research activities within the Division of Computational Science and Technology (CST) are particularly focused on:

  • understanding and modelling physical and biological systems including the information processing and learning capabilities in the human brain;
  • computational techniques including high-performance algorithms, adaptive methods, partial differential equations, networks, machine learning, and visual data analysis; and
  • efficient, parallel environments together with advanced visualization and interaction capabilities.

The division develops methods, computing environments and data analysis capabilities to solve scientific questions in a multi-disciplinary setting shaping the future of computing.

The CST division is active in both graduate and undergraduate education – in particular it is responsible for several tracks in the computer science and interactive media technology Masters programs.
