Pedagogic seminar “Flipped Classroom”

One of the main challenges in Analog Electronics courses is that theory and practice come hand-by-hand. The experimental activities, which in this case are laboratories, are of paramount importance. One of the course evaluation results of IE1202 “Analog Electronics” HT17 was that the students found difficult to understand many topics until they actually finished the laboratories. Clearly, it was in the laboratories where the students saw the connection between theory and practice, and therefore they would gladly want to see more experimental activities in the course. However, adding laboratories in a traditional way faces major obstacles since it would require to allocate resources currently unavailable (assistants, lab rooms, time, etc.). An alternative is to implement flipped-classroom labs (probably better called flipped-labrooms), in which the students do the labs on their own at home. This, however, requires to move bulky measurement equipment such as power supplies, signal generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and assistants to each student's home. This pedagogic seminar shows how we solved this problem in IE1202 “Analog Electronics” HT18.
