Student influence at CBH

Students have the right to representation in the school's preparatory and decision-making bodies as below:

  • Management group at school level (2 student representatives, one of whom should be at PhD level)
  • The head of school's strategic council (2 student representatives, one of whom should be at PhD level)
  • Management group at department level (1 adjunct student representative per management group, PhD level, can be from own department)
  • The school's quality council at the undergraduate level (4–5 student representatives at the undergraduate level: for example a chairman of the study board per section, as well as SRO)
  • The school's program council for chemistry, biotechnology, medical technology and the university engineering courses in Flemingsberg. (1 student representative/council, chairman of the study committee or PAS)
  • The school's quality council for postgraduate education (1 student representative, postgraduate level) The school's program council for the doctoral programs in chemistry, biotechnology, technology and health (1 student representative/council, PhD level)
  • The school's JML group (2 student representatives, one of whom should be at PhD level) Recruitment board (2 student representatives, one of whom should be at PhD level) Docent committee (1 student representative PhD level)
  • The school's school board (1 adjunct at postgraduate level)

The students must be offered to be represented by at least the number of representatives indicated in parentheses after each grouping. At larger gatherings, such as program and undergraduate conferences, more student representatives should be offered to participate.

The CBH school recommends that student influence be exercised by doctoral students in matters that primarily affect doctoral students, such as in the departments' management team, program councils for doctoral programs, docent committees and in doctoral education committees.

When new groups or working groups, temporary or permanent, which are of importance to the education or the situation of students at the CBH school are established, consultation must take place with THS regarding whether and, if so, how THS should participate. If the group or working group is appointed via a formal decision, the decision maker must consult with THS regarding student influence via sro-cbh@ths.kth.se and/or phdcouncil@cbh.kth.se. In cases where no formal decision is made, the group's convener/chairman is responsible for consultation with THS.

Consultation when an individual makes a decision

When an individual has to make a decision that has not been prepared in a group, the decision maker must consider whether consultation should take place with THS in the preparation of the decision. If consultation is to take place, THS should be contacted early in the preparation, but no later than 7 days before the decision is made, via sro-cbh@ths.kth.se. In cases where there is no student representation and THS has not been able to appoint a student representative, the school may, in consultation with THS, temporarily appoint a student representative until THS decides on the matter. Appointing an undergraduate education manager, postgraduate education manager, program manager and head of department are examples of decisions that are made by an individual and are not prepared in a group. The student representative must be contacted at an early stage when someone is to be appointed for such an assignment. When appointing a head of department, it is recommended that student influence be exercised via doctoral students in the relevant department's management team. It is also recommended for doctoral education supervisors and program supervisors at doctoral level that the student influence is primarily exercised by a doctoral student. Alternatively, and in the event of the appointment of an undergraduate education manager and a program manager at first and second level, THS should be contacted via sro-cbh@ths.kth.se.  

Evaluation of student influence

Evaluation of the student influence takes place every semester. The agenda for the meeting must be drawn up together with THS. The head of school, head of undergraduate education, head of postgraduate education and student representatives for basic level/advanced level (student council president and a representative from the sections (SNO or PAS)) and postgraduate level must be invited to the meeting via sro-cbh@ths.kth.se.
The meeting participants must be called no later than 7 days before the meeting.
