Digitalisation and sustainability

Digitalising the planning process when building a society is a major undertaking. Making that process more sustainable at the same time makes it even more complex—but this is what Sabina Edelman aims to explore through a PhD at KTH, within the School of Architecture and the Built Environment’s special initiative “Digitalisation and Sustainability.”

Architect Einar Rodhe wants to place GPS transmitters on buildings scheduled for demolition in order to understand architecture in a broader context. He has worked with reuse in Belgium and taught at Konstfack. He is now starting a PhD position at KTH within the School of Architecture and the Built Environment’s special initiative “Digitalization and Sustainability,” launched in 2025. His project will use digitalization to explore radically new futures.

“I don’t make art, it is architecture using artistic methods,” he says.

Yiling Fan is one of six doctoral students who have begun their PhD projects within the special initiative “Digitalisation and Sustainability.” Her project focuses on new data sources in societal infrastructure and modeling.

Erfan’s doctoral project has the working title “Circular Business Models for Reuse in the Construction Sector” and is a collaboration between the ABE School’s Departments of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Real Estate and Construction Management.

Sara Tunjic Ekeroth is one of six doctoral students who have started their PhD projects within the special initiative “Digitalization and Sustainability”. Her project focuses on how to manage flood risks when there is significant uncertainty about what the future will look like.
