To the Environmental Humanities STREAMS community:
Thanks to all for your interest in STREAMS and for your continuing support and patience in a difficult time.
Monitoring carefully the Corona virus situation and considering the constraints on mobility, resources, and possibilities to prepare for international meetings at this moment, the STREAMS Organizing Committee has come to the decision that the STREAMS conference cannot take place as planned this August.
This is the brief and probably expected sad news… so let’s turn now to the good news!
The background needs and demands of a major international meeting of the vibrant field of Environmental Humanities still remain as strong as they were in July 2018 when it was decided at the EH Summit in Munich that such a meeting should be organized and that the KTH Environmental Humanities Lab should take on the role of hosting it.
In that spirit, we wish to keep up the momentum and have concluded the following:
The STREAMS meeting with a full face to face and remote participation will be postponed until a date some time during the northern summer of 2021 (main options are June or August). The intention is to maintain as much as possible of the activities accepted and planned for August 2020 and move them forward to 2021. We may add or subtract activities as the planning situation requires. As soon as we have decided on dates for the postponed STREAMS we will distribute them.
The main reason for moving the conference as planned is that the core mission of this first inclusive, global EH conference was always to bring multiple EH communities together and we still believe in face to face social contact as a crucial bridge builder.
In addition, we will also launch Streaming STREAMS, an online version of STREAMS, that will start during the original dates of the meeting 4-8 August 2020 and that will then run up until and through the conference days in 2021. There will be opportunities to provide condensed virtual versions of your planned contributions. The virtual activity will be experimental and hopefully continuous over the year and will also serve to schowcase the upcoming STREAMS 2021 and of current EH worldwide using numerous mediums, e.g. interviews, podcasts, and texts. Planning of Streaming STREAMS is now ongoing.
You will soon hear from us again about dates for STREAMS 2021 and further details on Streaming STREAMS.
