MASD - Mistra Arctic Sustainable Development
The program aims to develop a nuanced understanding of local and subnational governance challenges in the European Arctic, with the aim to increase the capacity of local and regional decision makers to make informed decisions related to sustainable development.
The program focuses on seven economic (and governance) sectors: mining, forestry, oil- and gas, fisheries, tourism, reindeer husbandry and municipal planning. A central research task is to investigate how laws and regulations for resource exploitation has been constructed and changed over time and why, as well as how Arctic communities have responded to those changes and to new extractive industries.
