KTH team wins Excitera Innovation Challenge

Published Jun 04, 2007

Excitera Innovation Challenge, the entrepreneurship competition for all Swedish students, was concluded on 15 May with an awards ceremony at Berns in Stockholm. The prize for the Best New Mobile Service was won by Attention! submitted by students Michael Franzén, David Haddad and Sriram Krishnanch from KTH and the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship.

Attention! Is a service that allows users, through their mobiles, to access information about interesting environments that other people have left for them. For example, the phone rings while you are passing a bar that a friend has recommended by leaving a message. In this way an entire knowledge base can eventually be built up on the places - theatres, cinemas, restaurants and other places – that you might wish to visit.

Michael, David and Sriram won SEK 75 000 in prize money and SEK 100 000 earmarked for starting up a company based on the mobile service Attention! In addition, they received six months’ telecom infrastructure from Telenor, who were the primary sponsors for this competition category, plus an offer to join the incubator IQube.

In second place came NeedYouNeedMe submitted by University College of
Arts Crafts and Design students Andrea de Angelis and Andrew Haarsager, which is designed to help neighbours exchange services and borrow products from each other. They shared a prize of SEK 50 000.

In third place came another KTH team consisting of Joakim Sarnelid and Sara Kappelmark who won SEK 25 000 for their DateChallenge. This service is aimed at Internet daters who are meeting for the first time. Instead of meeting for coffee they can get to know each other by participating in a text message-based treasure hunt.
