New KTH master´s student participates in Airbus´summer academy
Produce game-changing concepts linked to global need for food and water security! That´s the challenge at the Airbus Airnovation Summer Academy which closes today. 50 top students from 20 countries participate. One of them is from KTH.
Today´s the last day of the Airbus Airnovation Summer Academy at the UK’s Cranfield University. The 50 participating top students will present their response to the challenge of the week, which is to produce game-changing concepts linked to global need for food and water security. Davide Di Nubila, age 22, from Verbania in Italy is one of them. He thinks that the summer academy at Cranfield University is a good example of cooperation between companies and universities.
“I think companies and universities should work with each other in order to prepare students for real life challenges. Projects such as the Airbus Airnovation Summer Academy demonstrate how much a student can benefit from lectures on networking, public speaking and many other soft skills – which are rarely discussed during normal lectures. Therefore, I strongly encourage this type of cooperation between universities and companies,” he says.
Having finished a bachelor in aerospace engineering at Politecnico in Milan Davide Di Nubila is now coming to KTH in August to study at the international master´s program
“I decided to come to KTH because I am very passionate about turbomachinery, propulsion and power generation. Also the THRUST program offers huge opportunity for international experience and collaboration with partners companies,” he says.
When Davide Di Nubila has finished his master´s exam at KTH he would like to go straight into industry.
“Possibly I would like to remain in the Aerospace industry and power generation. It is possible that after some work experience I will go for an MBA program to integrate my business education,” he says.
The students at the summer academy come from 24 of Airbus’ partner universities in 20 countries. They come from various multidisciplinary backgrounds and get together for an intense one week program based on the principles and methods of a business accelerator.
“At Airbus, we believe that the technology to radically change the world is within our grasp, and we will need talented people who can harness new tools, a new mindset, and work effectively in diverse and multi-disciplinary teams. The network and the skills that students will develop this week while creating imaginative and practical responses to critical world challenges will be invaluable for their future careers,” says Airbus’ Chief Human Resources Officer Thierry Baril.
The summer academy closes today with the students pitching their ideas to the jury at 10 –12 AM GMT+1. At the Airnovation Award Ceremony at 1:30–2 PM GMT+1 the idea that impressed the jury the most is presented. The event is live streamed on Facebook.
