New President for KTH in January

The Government of Sweden has appointed Professor Anders Flodström, currently President of KTH, to the position of University Chancellor and Director General of the National Agency for Higher Education, HSV. He will begin in August 2007 and his appointment will conclude in September 2011.

A new process for nomination of candidates for the position of President of KTH has been initiated. The goal is that the new President will take up the position on 1 January 2008. Executive Deputy President Anders Eriksson will become Acting President of KTH from 1 August when Anders Flodström begins as University Chancellor.

In his new role as University Chancellor, Anders Flodström will work to broaden HSV involvement in the development of Swedish universities and all their operations, as well as initiating quality activities that will ensure improved global opportunities.

“I am proud and honoured to shoulder the responsibilities of the University Chancellor for all Swedish universities and university colleges. This is an immense challenge in a time when higher education and research are becoming increasingly important for dynamic social development” was Anders’ comment.

Lars Leijonborg, Minister for Education and Research is extremely happy that Anders Flodström applied for and accepted the position as University Chancellor.

“Anders Flodström is a man of action and he possesses the moral courage to demand high levels of quality” he commented.
