RESYNCH is dedicated to the development of dynamically reconfigurable synchronous electric machines for commercial vehicle drivetrain applications, wherein pole reconfiguration generates discrete electromagnetic performance variants within a single machine hardware platform. This capability enables widening the maximum efficiency region across the torque-speed envelope, extends the peak power curve through reconfiguration-driven torque-speed characteristic reshaping, and supports configuration specific torque profiles for startability and gradeability events versus steady-state cruising, collectively presenting the opportunity for possible drivetrain gear reduction or elimination.

The work so far has identified stator winding arrangements and topologies that enable pole reconfiguration on the stator level by using dual three phase systems. Analytically, a generalized multiphase MMF theoretical framework has been established to characterize the MMF harmonic content to enable stator pole reconfiguration and harmonic harvested rotor excitation.
