About Gert's work for HPC
Gert has worked at KTH since 1981. From the start, he worked at the Computer Systems group, which operated the first UNIX system at KTH and the second in Sweden. In the mid-1980s, he initiated and implemented the setup of KTH on the Internet.
Gert has been with the PDC Centre for High Performance Computing at KTH since its founding in 1990 as the first employee, playing a central role in shaping the centre into a world-class research facility. Over the past three decades, Gert has been a driving force behind Sweden’s progress in parallel and high-performance computing. As Deputy Director of PDC, Gert oversaw the deployment of world-class supercomputers like Bellman and Strindberg up to and including PDC's latest supercomputer, Dardel, as well as the unique six-sided Virtual Reality (VR) cube.

Gert initiated and participated in many national and international collaborations and championed initiatives focused on energy efficiency and sustainability in HPC. His vision helped establish PDC as a leading centre in Sweden and the European HPC ecosystem. In the past year, Gert has also contributed at the national level as Deputy Technical Director for NAISS, mainly working as a project leader in the procurement and setup of the Swedish EuroHPC system Arrhenius.
Let’s come together to celebrate Gert’s career and lasting legacy!
