Title: Stability and Control of Grid-Connected Converters Abstract: The widespread use of power electronic converters is radically changing dynamics and control of electric power grids. Stably operating power converters under a wide range of grid conditions has become critical to the grid security. This talk will begin with a review of stability challenges with grid-connected converters, considering both grid-following and grid-forming control modes. Then, modeling methods for analyzing grid-converter interactions will be introduced, and insights into dynamic impacts of control loops will be provided. Lastly, several control schemes for actively stabilizing grid-connected converters will be discussed. Bio: Xiongfei Wang received the PhD degree in energy technology from Aalborg University, Denmark, in 2013. Since 2009 he has been with the Aalborg University, where he became an Assistant Professor in 2014, an Associate Professor in 2016, and a Professor and the Research Program Leader on Electronic Power Grid (eGrid) in 2018. Since 2020 he has also been with KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, as a Visiting Professor in power electronics systems. His research interests include analytical modeling and control of grid-interactive converters, stability and power quality of power-electronic-based power systems, active and passive power filters. Dr. Wang serves as a Member-at-Large for Administrative Committee of IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) in 2020-2022, and as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, the IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, and the IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics. He was selected into Aalborg University Strategic Talent Management Program in 2016. He has received six Prize Paper Awards in the IEEE Transactions and conferences, the 2016 Outstanding Reviewer Award of IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, the 2018 IEEE PELS Richard M. Bass Outstanding Young Power Electronics Engineer Award, the 2019 IEEE PELS Sustainable Energy Systems Technical Achievement Award, the 2019 Highly Cited Researcher in the Web of Science, and the 2020 IEEE Power & Energy Society Prize Paper Award.
