About the event

At the 29th of September, the IEEE PES Sweden Membership meeting with lectures on "Old and new uncertainly in power systems and smart grid at Vattenfall" was arranged at KTH's main campus.

The membership meeting gathered a large group of members from industry and academia for an afternoon networking at KTH Main Campus. Several students from the master program and PhD students within electrical engineering participated along with faculty including visiting Professor Joe H. Chow, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute New York. The event had two invited distinguished lecturers: Professor Math Bollen, IEEE Fellow, and Dr Fredrik Carlsson, Vattenfall. The lectures discussed actual topics of electric power systems, involving uncertainties in the power system and smart grid developments.

Professor Lina Bertling Tjernberg, chair of the PES/PEL Sweden Chapter, gave an introduction about IEEE membership and examples of previous activities. This year marks the tenth year anniversary since the 9th PMAPS conference where actual topics on power system reliability were discussed following the storm Gudrun, a storm that caused blackouts in the south of Sweden the year before. The seminar finished with a reminder to vote for to upcoming IEEE elections and the encouraging words "the more you give, the more you gain!".
