Call: Environment and sustainability without boundaries

KTH Sustainability Office is looking for project applications that support multidisciplinary collaborations within KTH with relevance to environment and sustainable development. Funding is normally of maximum SEK 100 000 per project, but can in some cases be larger. Funding will be disbursed during 2023. Proposals targeting collaboration with small or medium sized enterprises (SME:s) can also apply for additionally SEK 50 000 for developing the collaboration.

This year, education projects can apply for funding in a separate . We therefore expect that most application will focus on other aspects.

Proposals for projects addressing the KTH Sustainable Development Objectives and Climate Objectives  are welcome, and we especially encourage applications that develop new collaborations across KTH’s schools.

Examples of research and activities

Examples of research and collaboration activities that can apply for funding are:

• Seed funding for multidisciplinary research projects that could lead to new research applications.
• Aim to increase collaboration between KTH and Akademiska Hus or
• Aim to start or further develop a collaboration with a small or medium sized enterprise (SME, for additional funding, see above).
• Arrange a conference or seminar series with an interdisciplinary theme.
• Start a University-wide network, or to carry out activities in an existing network.

Criteria

When assessing the applications, the following criteria, among other things, will be used:

• Does the proposed project increase the multidisciplinary connections?
• Does it support new collaborations?
• Are different KTH schools engaged in the proposal?
• What ESD relevance does the project have?
• How open / closed is the project? (Examples of open projects are networks, external courses and conferences; examples of closed projects are internal conferences.)
• Does the project increase student engagement?

When assessing applications for an additional SEK 50 000 to develop collaboration with SME:s, the following criteria will be used:

• Does the application describe how the SME is connected to research or education at KTH?
• Does the application describe how the project helps one or more SME:s get in contact with and/or strengthen collaboration with research or education at KTH?

Funded projects are required to submit a shorter report summarizing the results of the project approximately one year after the disbursement date. This report must include a short popular scientific description of the project to be used in KTH Sustainability Office's newsletters, websites, etc. All projects funded in 2023 will also be invited to present their funding at a seminar in 2024, arranged by KTH Sustainability Office.

KTH Sustainability Office

The KTH Sustainability Office coordinates the Environmental management system for KTH and works to integrate sustainable development within all levels of strategic and operational activities. The Vice President for Sustainable Development leads the integration within education, research and collaboration, and the integration into operation and facilities is led by the Sustainability Manager.
