LST-Day 2013 – Imaging, Spectroscopy, Modelling and Simulations – from molecule to man

On December 9th the LST research platform will arrange a one-day workshop: "Frontiers in Life Science Technology at KTH". The purpose is to bring together research groups at KTH, representing the full spectrum of life science related research at KTH, and to promote interaction and collaboration between the groups.

The workshop will contain two sessions. In the first session (12:00 – 18:00), a few external, highly renowned researchers active in life sciences will each give a 30 or 40 min keynote "inspiration" lecture. We are happy to announce that we have received confirmation from four prominent external researchers representing different areas of life science technology research:

Kurt Wüthrich, ETH: Pioneer in the development of NMR spectroscopy for determination of 3D structures of macromolecules. Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry 2002.

Stefan W Hell, Max-Planck Inst Biophys Chem, Göttingen: The Pioneer in the development of super-resolution far field microscopy, and of its application within cell biology and biomedicine.

Lior Pachter, Berkely Univ: Director of the laboratory of mathematical and computational biology, and leading expert in comparative genomics.

Nico De Jong, Erasmus Univ/Medical Center: Leading expert in ultrasound contrast agents and ultrasound clinical imaging.

The lectures by the external speakers are to be intertwined with short (12-15 min) presentations by principal investigators (PIs) at KTH providing an opportunity to present ongoing research.

In the second session (18:00 – 20:00), a light meal will be served outside of the auditorium, and at the same time there will be a poster session, with posters from KTH research groups. In the second session, researchers at all levels, and PhD students in particular, are encouraged to interact and discuss possible collaborations.

On the 18th of December (13:00 – 16:00) there will be a follow-up seminar, where PhD students from the different research groups taking part in the workshop of the 9th of December are asked to give oral presentations (15 min each). The presentations should describe potential collaboration projects between at least two different research groups at KTH, preferentially from different schools and with diverse (but hopefully complementing) competences and research foci.

As a PhD student/postdoc, come and listen to an interesting series of lectures in life science technology, and receive some PhD course credits! PhD students actively participating in the workshop on the 9th and in the seminar session of the 18th of December will receive 1,5 ECT credits. Moreover, some initial promotion funding will be awarded to the most promising collaboration projects presented.

As a PI, take the opportunity to make your research visible to your KTH colleagues! Please contact Jerker Widengren  (jwideng@kth.se) if you are interested in giving a presentation at the LST day.

Further detailed information about the workshop and follow-up seminar will follow. Meanwhile, please reserve the dates and times:
