Theme: Bacteria – Foe & Friend

The theme includes e.g. technologies for meeting challenges associated with antibiotic resistance, ranging from societal level to treatment of infections, as well as technologies for using bacteria for the benefit of mankind.
The program has three invited speakers, two scholars and one entrepreneur. Prof. Jukka Corander will talk about mathematical models for the genomic variation in bacteria across natural populations. Many of the statistical methods that are used can be applied to analysis of complex data in other fields. Prof. Christopher Voigt from MIT will talk about his research, which combines engineering disciplines with life sciences in an highly unexpected way, such as computing with bacterium. Finally, Bryan Tracy is an entrepreneur, CEO and co-founder of White Dog Lab. Their focus is on developing and commercializing novel technologies that use bacteria to address global challenges including food sustainability and climate change.
The above invited presentations will be intertwined with opportunities for gaining insight into ongoing KTH research related to the theme.
