Transport Research Environment with Novel Perspectives (TRENoP)

The vision of TRENoP is to combine technology and policy with a systems perspective to form a new strategic transport-focused research field. This implies that in 2022, new research focusing on overall system sustainability and effectiveness has contributed to the emergence of new sustainable transport solutions.

Urbanisation, population growth, and expansion of global trade are significantly increasing the demand for personal and freight transport. The transport system is undergoing rapid connectivity, electrification, and automation transformations. On the other hand, climate change claims the development of enablers of 100% recyclable, safe, super low-emission, and low fuel consumption vehicles.

Technological advances to reach this vision are directed towards operational and functional aspects of, for example, the design manufacturing of cars, trucks, buses, rail vehicles. However, there is also a need and a great potential for innovation in policies and institutional frameworks. Developing regulatory measures and institutional frameworks is a delicate task with complex and far-reaching consequences.

TRENoP's strategy is to build an environment that will foster interdisciplinary, basic and applied research to address global issues. The building blocks are research and interaction. Through faculty renewal and funding, the research block will support research in promising directions. The interaction platform will support interactions among faculty and interactions with society and industry.

Impact

One cornerstone of TRENoP is its focus on societal impact. We facilitate a platform for collaboration between research environments and industry, government, funding agencies and stakeholders, and the research environments themselves. Over the years, we have established centres, pan-European, and global projects, networks, and activities that provide a solid foundation for achieving societal impacts. Below are two examples of impact from TRENoP research that have also been expanded further after the news was published.

TRENoP's mission is to build and integrate the knowledge and competencies necessary to drive the shift towards sustainable and resource-efficient transport solutions. This will be achieved through designing, analysing, and experimenting with transport solutions at all system levels:
