    Rebecka Milestad is an agronomist, doctor in rural development and docent in environmental strategies research. Milestad conducts interdisciplinary research from a systems perspective on farm and food resilience, consumer-producer links in food systems, multifunctional agriculture, urban agriculture and urban food systems, and local organic food networks from a systems perspective. She is also the co-director of KTH FOOD.  

  • Hello there, Stefania Giacomello!

    Giacomello is conducting her research in the Spatial Biology field, studying how biological information of cells in a tissue is structured in 2D. Her research team is aiming to discover the tight connection between food and the human gut microbiome and especially how dietary interventions can be beneficial for the microbiome and therefore our health.

For Barbro Fröding, a senior researcher at the Division of Philosophy at KTH and a Work Package leader for the PLENTY research centre, considering the social aspects of the food system transformation is just as important.

    Luca Urciuoli conducts research in the area of supply chain management, and explains that the waste in the food sector is enormous and a challenge we have not managed to overcome yet. He adds that food waste inevitably leads to inefficient usage of resources like livestock, land-use, water, energy etc.

    Access to nutritious, affordable food is a fundamental aspect of urban well-being, yet in many cities, food deserts — areas with limited availability of fresh, healthy food — pose a growing challenge. Ioannis Ioannidis, researcher at KTH FOOD, applies spatial analysis to map patterns of food inequality in Stockholm.

    Emrah Karakaya is an associate professor of industrial dynamics and sustainable business models. In his research, he explores how industrial sectors – for example energy and food – change over time and towards sustainability. He is also a visiting scholar at Harvard University and the theme leader for Value Chains and Consumption at KTH FOOD.

    Jonas House recently joined KTH as the first postdoctoral researcher at KTH FOOD, where he’ll be contributing to innovative research on sustainable food systems. Originally from the UK, Jonas spent nearly a decade living in the Netherlands before making the move to Sweden. His journey to KTH was shaped by a passion for food studies, culture, and sustainability.
