• Smart Home Research Set to Begin

  KTH researchers are about to begin work on designs for innovative new “smart homes” in Norra Djurgårdsstaden, the gigantic showcase development that will re-shape the northeastern edge of the Swedish capital in coming decades. Smart electric grids, already a KTH strength, are an important element in the project.

  Reducing our electricity consumption which will lead to smarter storage and distribution of electricity are two major challenges we face. When the third meeting of the conference ICES begins on 2 September, the arrangers and the researchers at KTH intend to tackle these problems; they also aim to define a number of new challenges which are worthy of further research.

• Your site’s carbon dioxide emissions

  KTH researcher Jorge Zapico has developed an application which can calculate the carbon footprint of individual websites. The application is called Greenalytics and matches the latest web statistics with environmental data. It turns out that the KTH website produces seven tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
