Patents & Immaterial Rights

Correct agreements and immaterial rights can feel complicated, but are important when you develop an idea. We help you get on top of the legal issues so you can be sure that your idea stays yours and that you get ownership of your invention.

Support regarding patents and immaterial rights

One of the most important aspects of developing an idea or creating impact from you research is getting control of patents, agreements, right of use, and ownership. KTH Innovation’s patent attorneys and legal counsel support and guide you through the process.

Who can get support from KTH Innovation?

KTH Innovation supports current students, researchers and employees at KTH

KTH Innovation can help you:

  • Investigate patentability, file a patent application, and secure funding for a patent application
  • Draw up correct agreements, such as confidentiality agreements and shareholder agreements
  • Sell or license immaterial property
  • Advice and coaching regarding patents and immaterial rights
  • Trademark applications

Create an IP strategy

In parallel with your publications strategy, it can be useful to consider how to gain control of your discoveries and results with patents and agreements. We can help you figure out what you can protect and how to do it. We encourage you to contact us in an early stage, so you don’t have to worry about disclosing too much in a presentation or risk delaying a publication.

Ownership and agreements

Who owns what and what share? Are you collaborating with a company, or perhaps taking in investment? Having the right agreements and keeping track of who owns what is important right from the start. We help you get everything straight, so you can move forward with developing your idea.

The Professor's Privilege

  • In Sweden, the researcher owns the rights to their research, as long as nothing else has been agreed upon.
  • In most other countries, the employer, that is the University, owns the research.
  • The Professor's Privilege applies to PhD Students as well as Professors
