Is Swedish steel production energy efficient?

Published May 13, 2013

There are different ways of measuring energy efficiency. Within the steel industry, there is increasing doubt about the capacity of traditional indicators to actually capture energy efficiency improvements. A new project at ECS aims at more robust indicators for the sector.

During the coming one and a half year, PhD candidate Johannes Morfeldt, together with the ECS team, will analyse the influence of external factors on energy and climate indicators for steel production. The project aims at increasing understanding about societal, operational and market factors affecting energy indicators in the industry. The results will be used to provide recommendations for new, and more robust, indicators.

The project is implemented by ECS in collaboration with the Swedish Steel Association, Jernkontoret, and three Swedish steel producers: SSAB EMEA, Höganäs AB and Sandvik AB.

More information about the project is available in the ECS website.
