Thermal Energy Storage Design and Prototype

Electricity and thermal energy peak shaving and load shifting are essential in reaching out for a flexible and secure energy system. We aim to design and construct thermal energy storage units that allow flexible operation in order to promote renewable energy integration.

In this project, the following storage performance requirements are to be met:

  • Energy capacity: min. 6 kWh
  • Charging power: up to 6 kW (electric), should fully be charged within 6 hours
  • Thermal discharge rate: min. 36 kW (thermal) within 10 min
