Per Thulin’s research in The Economist

Published Sep 03, 2012

Per Thulin and Enrico Moretti’s paper “Local multipliers and human capital in the US and Sweden” is mentioned in a recent article in the Economist (www.economist.com/blogs/freeexchange/2012/05/tech-booms).

The study by Moretti and Thulin shows that adding 10 extra workers in the local tradable sector in Sweden generates approximately 5 additional jobs in the local non-tradable sector in the long run.

The corresponding figure for the US is 15 new jobs. The multiplier effect is particularly large for jobs with high levels of human capital and for high tech industries.
