From AI to green finance
What does the future of industry look like? During ongoing INDEK Master Thesis Days, 110 master’s theses are presented, addressing current challenges in areas such as AI, sustainability, and finance. Together, the students’ work provides a strong overview of the trends and needs currently shaping the development of industry.
Bo Karlson, course coordinator for the master’s thesis course at INDEK, explains what the days are about.
What do you want to achieve with the master thesis days?
To bring together the spring term master’s theses presentations from “our” three master’s programs into one joint event. This way we create an engaging and memorable conclusion to the studies at KTH.
What characterizes a strong master’s thesis in your view?
That it is practically problem-solving, preferably in collaboration with an external partner, while also using theory to systematically define and solve the problem.
Do you see any clear trends in topics or research areas among the theses?
Many focus on digitalisation and AI, as well as circular and sustainable business models. We also see many projects on green finance and sustainability reporting.
How do you view the connection between academia and industry?
Most students conduct their thesis in collaboration with external partners, primarily within industry and the financial sector, which illustrates a tangible form of cooperation between academia and business. This year we see collaborations with among others; Husqvarna, Vattenfall, Assa Abloy, Sweco, Pricer, Swedbank, AstraZeneca, Sandvik, VTI, and the Swedish Transport Administration.
How do the student theses reflect current societal challenges or industry needs?
Very clearly. Students are experts at capturing current trends and issues, especially within industry.
What do you want students to take away from the event?
A sense of joy and pride in having accomplished something truly great. They have had the opportunity to present their results to faculty, company representatives, as well as family and friends. That we take them seriously!
