Conference theme

Industrial Engineering and Management
Back to the core, beyond the core

Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) is one of the most successful fields in contemporary engineering education. It attracts good students, produces highly attractive engineers, and has significant influence on management, both as a result of IEM-research and former students’ positions. ere is a strong demand in society for management knowledge at the interface to technology and engineering. By addressing managerial issues, like effectiveness, innovation, and sustainability in engineering contexts, IEM is at the forefront, enabling sustainable
competitiveness.

This year’s conference addresses the very nature of the IEM-field in industry and society. What constitutes and characterizes good IEM education and research? Which issues, subjects and empirical phenomena should IEM-scholars address? What constitutes the core subjects of IEM? What is rigor and relevance in IEM research? And how should we strengthen our competitive edge in relation to other academic disciplines?
