How do I request a book?
Books that are available in the library you need to pick up yourself on the shelf . You can only request books that are either lent out, in closed stacks or located at another KTH library. When you find a book you are interested in, you can click on the "borrow/request" link. If you are KTH affiliated you can log in using your KTH account. How long can I keep the book?
We have a 14 day loan period on most of our books. You don’t have to renew the book as we have automatical renewals up until a maximum of 180 days is reached or until someone else requests the book. You will then recieve a recall notice by email.
We also have course book collections in the Electrum and Telge libraries. Course books have a 7 day loan period with two automatical renewals until a maximum of 21 days is reached or until someone else requests the book. You will then recieve a recall notice by email.
Can I borrow materials if I don’t work or study at KTH?
Yes. You may borrow most of our books with a few exceptions.
Can you extend the time on hold shelf?
No. The number of days on hold shelf is five for most books and three for books from the course book collection. We can not to extend it. If you haven’t picked up your book before the hold expires, you have to make a new request.
I lost my library card. What should I do?
The library card is personal and you are responsible for all loans made with your card. If you have lost it, notify us as soon as possible so we can block it from unauthorized use. You can collect a new card at the information desk if you can identify yourself.
Can you send the book to my home address?
No. You will have to pick it up at the library.
Why is my library account blocked?
It’s probably because of one of the following reasons;
You have overdue books. Your card will be acitivated once you return them.
You have an overdue fee of more than 50 SEK. The block will be lifted when you pay your fee.
Your account has expired. Come to the library and we will help you renew it.
A technical issue. Contact the library and we will fix it.
Why can I only keep the course books for a week? I need it for a longer period of time.
We want as many people as possible to get access to the course litterature. Don't borrow more books than you can manage to read within a week.
I have a new address. How can I change it?
If you are a KTH student or staff you need to notify your department if you want to change your address. If you are a non KTH user you can update your address by logging in to your library account.
Can you see who has borrowed a certain book?
Yes, but that information is confidential, so we can't tell you.
The book I'm interested in is only available as an ebook. Can you get the printed version?
Due to policy we don’t acquire printed versions of books that are available as e-books.
I didn’t get a reminder.
The library system sends out all reminders to the email address you have registered in our system. The reminders should be looked at as a service, not a requirement for returning the books in time. You can always see the current due date if you log in to your library account.
Can I return books when the library is closed?
Yes, we have a book drop outside all of our libraries.
My book got lost/stolen. What should I do?
You have two options. You can pay an invoice of 850 SEK that covers the lost book. You can also buy a replacement copy, same or a newer edition, and give to the library. If the book has been stolen you should contact the police and your insurance company.
I’m away on a trip and are unable to return the book.
If the book is late you will get overdue notices and eventually we will send you a lost item bill. Please remember it’s a violation against our borrowing regulations to leave the country with our books. If you are going to travel make sure to return all loans beforehand.
Can I return the book to any branch library?
Yes, as long as it's one of our KTH branch libraries.
What should I do if I get overdue fines?
You can pay at the information desk. We do not waive fees. If your fee exceeds 50 SEK your library account will be blocked.
I have recieved an invoice for a lost book. What should I do?
The invoice fee is a replacement fee of 850 SEK. If you return the book soon after recieving the invoice we will waive the fee.
At KTH Library we can make requests for books that aren’t available in our own collections and this service is called interlibrary loans. We can also request copies, for example from journals we are not subscribed to.
Who can request material via interlibrary loan services?
Both students and employees at KTH can request materials via interlibrary loan. For KTH students we make requests for books that aren’t available at the library or another library in the Stockholm region. If the book is available at another library in the Stockholm region you can go there to borrow the book.

What can I request via interlibrary loan?
KTH Library can borrow printed materials from other libraries on behalf of our users. We also make requests for paper copies of articles, book chapters, reports, conference papers etc.

How do I request materials that aren’t available at KTH Library?
To request materials you need to be registered as a user at KTH Library.
When you search for materials in
Primo there’s an option to include materials outside the library's collections. If you would like to make a request, follow the link “Request or suggest for purchase”. We will decide whether to purchase the material or request it via interlibrary loan.
You can also search and request materials via the national search service
Libris or via the databases provided by the library.

For how long can I keep an interlibrary loan?
The loan period depends on the policy of the lending library. The current loan period for your book can be viewed at your library account. Usually it’s possible to extend the loan period. Sometimes the book is recalled earlier due to a waiting list so it is necessary that you return the book in time.

How do I get my book or copy?
Books are put on hold shelf just like regular loans and you will get a message when it is ready to be picked up.
Paper copies are sent by post to the address which is registered in your library account. For employees at KTH we use the internal mail service.
Yes, as a KTH student or staff you can reach our resources wherever you are by logging in with your KTH account.
I’m having difficulties accessing a database, an e-book or a journal article. What can I do?
Report the problem to us and we will investigate and find a solution. Please describe if you were on campus or elsewhere when you tried to access the resource. If you received an error message it’s helpful if you can send us a screenshot.
How do I borrow a key to the lockers at the Main Library?
We have two kinds of lockers at the Main Library: The lockers in the basement can be borrowed for the day and the lockers in Norra galleriet can be rented for 400 SEK per semester. If you want to borrow or rent a key to a locker, talk to the library reception.
What happens if I don't return the key to the locker?
If you don't return the key we will send out reminders, just like with book loans. If you still don't return it, you have to pay a fee.
How do I book a group study room?
Only KTH students can book a group study room. Go to the
booking page, click on an available time slot and book it with your library card number or KTH email address. Don't forget to confirm your booking 15 minutes before to 15 minutes after your time has started. If you don't confirm your booking you will lose it and it will be deducted from your booking quota.
How do I rent the facilities at the library?
It is possible to rent our facilities at the Main Library. You can find a list over our facilities, the equipment and the costs
here (currently only available in Swedish).

Why can't I bring food in to the library?
There are many reasons to why you can't bring food to the library. It can bother other visitors and causes litter.
Do you have a quiet reading room?
Yes, there is a quiet reading room in the Main Library called Ångdomen. We also have a quiet reading room at the Electrum Library in Kista.
Are there allergy friendly facilities in the library?
No, there are not.
Am I allowed to talk in the library?
Yes, talking is allowed except in the quiet reading roomand in quiet zones. Please be considerate to others and do not disturb more than necessary.
I have registered my thesis in DiVA. Why can't I find it?
The thesis will not show in DiVA before it has been edited and published by a librarian. The author will receive a message when the thesis is ready. The thesis will be available in DiVA no later than three weeks before the defense.
Why can't I edit my thesis in DiVA?
Only administrators at the PI department can edit a thesis record in DiVA. Send a message to

Can I change the layout of the posting sheet (spikblad)?
The posting sheet that is generated from DiVA, is created in line with KTH’s graphical profile. You need to print this and stick it into each copy of your printed thesis. Note that not more than 2000 characters can be used in the abstract text. If you need to adjust the abstract you can contact
Why are some of my publications missing in my publication list (on my profile page)?
If a publication is missing from your list of publications, make sure that it is registered in DiVA and that your KTH-id is registered correctly.
How can I find my KTH-id?
You can find your KTH-id on the right side of your profile page. The KTH-id starts with an “u”.
I have registered and uploaded my student thesis to DiVA. Why can’t I see it?
The thesis will not be visible in DiVA until a local DiVA administrator has reviewed and published it.
Why can’t I see my pdf that I have uploaded to DiVA?
Your pdf will not be visible immediately after uploading it. An administrator will check publisher conditions etc, which may take a few days.
How do I know if I can self-archive a publication?
First, make sure you have the right to put a copy of your publication in DiVA, see the
Sherpa/Romeo database. It should be written in your agreement with the publisher. If you need help with this, contact the library at
