Getting around with Stockholm public transport
From Stockholm Central Station to KTH campuses
Stockholm central station, T-centralen or the City terminal is where long-distance and commuter trains, underground trains, buses and taxis connect. This is also where the aiport coach will drop you off. From here you can easily access all of KTH campuses.
KTH main campus
KTH main campus is just 5 minutes away from Stockholm Central Station by Metro, 'tunnelbana'. Take the red line in the direction of Mörby Centrum and get off at the stop Tekniska Högskolan. KTH Entré is the central meeting point and service desk on campus, and can help you with guidance and contact, general queries and more.
Ticket options and SL Access card
KTH recommends all international students to buy a 30-day travel card for unlimited travel on buses, metro and commuter trains. It is the most cost-efficient option, as you will need to travel within Stockholm during the first month of your stay. Full price for a 30-day travel card is SEK 860.
Stockholm Public transportation (SL) uses a system with an electronic smart card called SL Access card, and once you buy your ticket it is stored on this card. When travelling you simply place the card on the readers in the automatic ticket barriers and/or the blue card readers on the buses. The Access card is sold at SL centers, metro and commuter railway stations to a one time charge of 20 SEK.
Travelling with student discounts
Even though it is possible to buy a student travel card/ticket without a student card, you need to be able to prove that you are a full-time student at a Swedish university to travel legitimately. Otherwise, you will risk a considerable fine if caught during a ticket inspection. Therefore, we strongly recommend you buy your travel card/ticket at full price until you have received your student card.
