This workshop will be hosted by Sanjana, a first-year master’s student in Mechatronics at KTH and a passionate abacus trainer with over ten years of experience.

Together we will explore the fascinating history of the abacus, learn the basics of how to use it, and discover how these techniques can sharpen focus, memory, and calculation speed. We will also try out speed writing and mental abacus exercises that train quick thinking and visualization skills. A fika break will be included, offering a chance to relax, chat, and reflect on the experience. Some abacuses will be provided, but please bring your own, if possible.

The workshop is open to all KTH students, with places limited to 15 participants.

This is the first of three student workshops at the library in the autumn of 2025. The purpose is to allow students to share their knowledge with each other and meet in an informal and fun way. Upcoming student workshop: Grow small food plants at home .
