Who was Bicky Chakraborty?

Bicky studied at Stockholm University at the end of the 1950s when he had the idea to let student accommodation that was empty over the summer. The business, which was run through the student union, was turned into a corporation in 1980, SSRS Holding AB, with Bicky Chakraborty at the helm.

This was the start of the hotel empire that is today Elite Hotels of Sweden. 

With the Bicky Chakraborty Entrepreneur Program , Bicky, who dedicated his career to building a company in Sweden, wanted to give something back to society but giving young entrepreneurs a chance to fulfill their dreams.

Bicky Chakraborty passed away in August 2022. We remain thankful for his strong support of entrepreneurship at KTH.

Entrepreneurs today generally speak early of an exit plan. I have never had that. When I started my journey, I thought about it as a long-term commitment and something that would be great to work and grow with long term – not a quick sell-off. Building a company only around an exit plan is not optimal from a job creation perspective, you have to dare to commit long term!
