Panel discussion in Dar es Salaam

In April 2026, representatives from KTH Global Development Hub participated in and contributed to the dialogue “From Dialogue to Collaboration: Strengthening Swedish–Tanzanian Higher Education, Research and Innovation Partnerships”, an initiative convened by the Swedish Embassy in Tanzania and Sida, hosted at the University of Dar es Salaam in Dar es Salaam.

From GDH, Director Lena Gumaelius and Erika Svensson Rössner participated. The purpose of attending Nordic Week was to strengthen the work carried out by GDH within the bilateral Sida-funded project, where GDH supports the development of the Tanzanian innovation ecosystem. Key stakeholders in this work, in addition to Sida and COSTECH, include the Embassy of Sweden in Tanzania, the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), and Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), as well as Swedish and Tanzanian industry partners.

The meeting raised several important issues, including the skills gap between graduates and labor market needs, and how industry can find platforms to raise and address key challenges in order to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry. These are important insights that the GDH team will carry forward in the continued work of the project.
