AIMES - Crossing Borders with Katarzyna Krukiewicz
“Development of multifunctional biomaterials – sliding on the interface of electrochemistry, microbiology and neural engineering” Katarzyna Krukiewicz, Silesian Technical University, Poland
Host: Agneta Richter-Dahlfors
AIMES - Center for the Advancement of Integrated Medical & Engineering Sciences at KI & KTH
Time: Wed 2022-04-06 10.00 - 11.00
Location: Zoom (sign up required)
Participating: Katarzyna Krukiewicz, Silesian Technical University, Poland
We are happy to welcome Katarzyna Krukiewicz to give a talk with the following abstract:
Current trends in the field of neural tissue engineering include the design of advanced biomaterials combining excellent electrochemical performance with versatile biological characteristics. Biocompatibility is undoubtedly the essential feature of any biomaterial.
To avoid bacterial colonization and associated infections, neural implants should also exhibit antibacterial effects. The development of multifunctional electroactive biomaterials with antibacterial and neuroprotective effects requires a multidisciplinary approach combining electrochemistry, microbiology and neural engineering. Sliding on the interface of disciplines
is a fascinating but also challenging task, which should be taken with a great care to assure research integrity.
