Surveys over the past 20 years have revealed nearly 4000 planets around neighbouring stars. The space telescope CHEOPS is a Swiss-lead ESA S-mission with Swedish contributions, designed to follow up and characterise some of these planets. CHEOPS is essentially a photometer that very accurately measures the brightness of a star as a planet transits in front of it. This talk will present the mission and its scientific goals within the context of the current exoplanet research field. CHEOPS is scheduled for launch in November 2019.

Coffee and cake will be available for the first 30 attendees at 15:00, warmly welcome!
