Can AI receive a Nobel Prize?

What are the risks, and how is AI an important tool for scientific breakthroughs? How does it affect future research and science? Should AI be able to win a Nobel Prize? Welcome to a conversation at the Nobel Prize Museum, where three researchers discuss the matter from different angles!
Time: Mon 2023-10-02 16.00
Location: Nobelprismuseet, Stortorget 2
Language: Swedish
Participating: Nina Wormbs (KTH), Magnus Boman (KTH/KI) and Åsa Wikforss (SU)
Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly important, especially in research. In a number of scientific fields, AI is necessary to enable processing of enormous amounts of data. What scientific breakthroughs can AI lead to? Will these developments affect public confidence in research? And how can AI change and influence the role of researchers – should AI even be awarded Nobel Prizes?
In a conversation at the Nobel Prize Museum, researchers will discuss opportunities, challenges and fears as AI assumes an increasingly important role in research.
This conversation is part of Nobel Calling and is being organised in partnership with Stockholm University, KTH, Karolinska Institutet and the Swedish Research Council.
Note that the talk is in Swedish.
The event is currently fully booked. There is no waiting list, but please revisit this page later - we will open registration again if any places become available!
Participants
Nina Wormbs , Professor of history of technology at KTH
Magnus Boman , Professor of intelligent software systems at KTH and Research affiliate at Karolinska Institutet
Åsa Wikforss , Professor of theoretical philosophy at Stockholm University
The conversations is led by Cissi Askwall from the Swedish Research Council.
Nobel Calling
This event is part of Nobel Calling, an event week led by the Nobel Prize Museum. Nobel Calling collects activities in science and technology in Stockholm during the week the Nobel Prize winners are announced. This year, the Nobel Calling takes place between 28 September and 9 October.
