KTH maintains high ranking in THE - landing at 106
KTH was ranked 106th among the world’s universities in the newly-released Times Higher Education World University Rankings. The previous year’s ranking was 98. The decline is part of a trend for Swedish higher education institutions.
“KTH has achieved exactly the same total score as last year, with only minor differences across the various components. The conclusion is undoubtedly that it is the increasing competition that has influenced the result,” says KTH’s Vice President Stefan Östlund.
Times Higher Education (THE) measures the performance of universities worldwide each year by evaluating 18 different indicators, divided into the main areas of teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry engagement.
At the top of the 2027 THE rankings, for the 11th year running, is the University of Oxford, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and other British and American universities.
Swedish trend
All of the highest-ranked Swedish universities have fallen in the rankings. Only the Karolinska Institute remains in the top 100, whilst Lund University, KTH and Uppsala University have dropped out.
KTH, which was ranked 98th last year, is now ranked 106th. However, the university’s total score remains unchanged.
“KTH needs to strengthen its position across the board in all sub-categories, not just any single category,” Östlund says.
