For the second consecutive year, KTH has held its all-time highest position in the world’s top 100 university rankings, which were published on June 8 by QS World University Rankings.

Landing at 89th place worldwide, KTH now ranks highest among universities in Sweden and it has climbed to the 15th highest spot among universities in the European Union.

“Being 89th in the world is really an accomplishment. It’s something that we should be proud of,” says KTH Deputy President Mikael Östling.

The QS World University Ranking  is issued each June, providing students worldwide with an evaluation of more than 1,400 universities. QS also issues rankings of universities by subject and an employability survey ( KTH was ranked 70th worldwide in the most recent one ).

Harking back to the employability survey and the recently-issued subject rankings , Östling says the strong scores in both—combined with this latest overall ranking—provide a comprehensive picture of KTH’s standing among higher education institutions.

“Every time we hold on to a premier position it’s a major success, because the competition stiffens every year,” Östling says.

Each university’s score is a summation of numerous metrics, among them: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio and international student ratio. Nearly 5,000 universities are considered by QS each year.
