KTH to host the Times Higher Education World Academic Summit
KTH Royal Institute of Technology will host the Times Higher Education (THE) World Academic Summit in Stockholm on 5-7 October 2027, bringing one of higher education's most influential international gatherings to Sweden during KTH's bicentenary year.
The announcement was made this week at the Times Higher Education World Academic Summit 2026 in Cape Town, where KTH President Anders Söderholm welcomed participants to Stockholm in 2027.
The Summit brings together university leaders, researchers, policymakers, industry representatives and other key voices from around the world to discuss the role of higher education in a rapidly changing society.
At a time of geopolitical uncertainty, technological disruption and profound societal change, the Summit, under the tagline "Dare to lead: The role of universities in a just and sustainable society", will bring together global leaders in higher education to discuss the future role of universities and their contribution to society.
"Universities have a special role in society. We must stand up for knowledge, academic freedom and the values that are fundamental to an open and democratic society," says Anders Söderholm, President of KTH.
A year for celebrations
The choice of KTH and Stockholm as host reflects both KTH's bicentenary in 2027 and the region's position as a leading hub for research, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Founded in 1827, KTH has played a central role in Sweden's technological and industrial development and has a long tradition of close collaboration with industry, the public sector and society at large.
"Hosting the World Academic Summit in KTH's bicentenary year is particularly meaningful. Our 200-year history provides a strong foundation, but universities must continually develop, challenge established ideas and help address society's most pressing issues. I look forward to welcoming colleagues from around the world to KTH and Stockholm," says Anders Söderholm.
