This presentation introduces sensors used for structural health monitoring and successful stories of Dewesoft and KTH, where different bridges have been instrumented.
Structural assessments are made based on assumptions that are on the safe side, due to the lack of information. The actual behaviours of structures and its operational conditions is rarely assessed nor quantified, introducing uncertainties in the process that may compromise the structural integrity of our current infrastructures. In this way, instrumentation can bring the necessary information to structural engineers to improve their FE-models, understand what was actually built and provide the necessary data for bridge management.
