The workplace

A postdoctoral scholarship in Astrophysics is available in the Particle and Astroparticle Physics group at the Department of Physics, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden,

Project description

This position mainly concerns studies of gamma-ray bursts. Focus will be on interpreting observations and results from the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. Fermi has revolutionized our understanding of GRBs. In particular, it has been shown that a part of the emission during the prompt phase is likely to stem from the photosphere in the relativistic jet. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the group’s ongoing work in this area.

The position is for two years.

Applicants should hold (or soon hold) a PhD in Astrophysics, Astroparticle Physics or a related subject, obtained no later than three years prior to starting the position. Candidates may not have received their PhD from KTH.

Applicants are expected to have a solid high-energy Astrophysics background, in data analysis and/or in theory. Experience with analysis of data from the Fermi is a merit. Experience with theoretical interpretation of the data is also expected. The applicant should be highly motivated by basic research and be able to perform independently and as part of a team. An excellent command of the English language is required.
