Extract of the ICT29 Call closing on April 12

Biophotonics: advancing imaging for in-depth disease diagnosis: The objective is to develop innovative, compact, easy to operate non- or minimally invasive functional imaging systems that are multi-band and multimodal (including photonics in combination with non-photonic techniques) to support the in vivo diagnosis of age and life-style related diseases like cancer, cardiovascular, osteoarticular, eye diseases and various neuro-pathologies, after a positive screening. The imaging system must be either label-free or based on already/rapidly safety-approved labels, and should either address unmet medical needs or support a diagnostic approach which is significantly superior to existing approaches. Physicians/clinicians must be closely involved from requirement specifications to the validation. Validation in clinical settings should be included, but clinical trials are excluded.

20-29 Oct: Optics and Photonics in Sweden 2015 (OPS-2015)

Optics & Photonics in Sweden (OPS) 2015 will be held 28 - 29 October 2015 at KTH - Alba Nova University Center - Stockholm.

Invited talks will cover a variety of topics in Optics and Photonics, reflecting current Swedish research and development at universities, institutes and in the industry. Keynote speakers will highlight European research and developments. A poster session will provide an additional opportunity to display to the most recent developments and achievements. It will also give an overview of Optics and Photonics in Sweden and offer a good platform for creating new collaborations. An exhibition and a session with company presentations will be held in parallel to the technical sessions to provide industry, institutes and associations an opportunity to display their products and services and bridge the gap between science and industry. The conference is organised by PhotonicSweden (PS) and the Swedish Optical Society (SOS).

2-4 June: Northern Optics & Photonics 2015

Description: In the International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies 2015 it is our great pleasure to organize the next edition in the series of Northern Optics conferences that brings together optical scientists from the Nordic and Baltic countries. The previous meetings were held in Uppsala (2000), Espoo (2003), Bergen (2006), Vilnius (2009), and Helsingør (2012).
Northern Optics & Photonics 2015 (NOP 2015) will be arranged on 2-4 June 2015 near the city of Imatra (but in Lappeenranta region) in South-Eastern Finland, a 2.5 hour train trip from Helsinki. The conference venue is the spa resort Holiday Club Saimaa by the beautiful lake Saimaa with attractive free-time activities.
The conference is organized by Photonics Finland in conjunction with the Institute of Photonics (UEF, Joensuu), Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT, Lappeenranta) and sponsored by optics/photonics societies of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Baltic countries. Because of extensive growth of photonics industries in the Nordic and Baltic countries and the formation of dedicated industrial photonics clusters in many countries, NOP 2015 has a separate industrial program committee besides the academic one and contains parts devoted specially to optics and photonics industries. There will as well be an exhibition. The conference deals with all aspects of optics and photonics from basic research to manufacturing and applications. It contains plenary, invited, contributed, and poster presentations.
Find the website of NOP2015 containing information on registration, fees, exhibition, program, confirmed speakers, travel and accommodation at .
During the conference EOS student clubs of the participating countries organize a recruiting event for students.

Location: Lappeenranta, Finland

11 November: Optics and Photonics in Sweden

Description: The Optics and Photonics in Sweden conference on Nov. 11-12 at Chalmers University, Gothenburg, is a two-day meeting where the community in Sweden meets. It provides an excellent opportunity for students to meet prospective employers and to advertise themselves. It also gives good opportunities for networking and learning about the breadth of optics research in the country. New this year is that academic and industrial research are given equal time for presentations.

17-19 March: Albanova Meeting on Quantum Contextuality

Location: A3:1003, Albanova University Center.

Organizer: Breno Marques Teixeira & Mohamed Bourennane (Fysikum, SU)

Event description: Non-contextuality is a property of classical physics in which the result of a measurement is not affected by other compatible measurements carried out on the same individual system. Since more than forty years it is known that non- contextuality is in conflict with quantum mechanics. This conflict is pointed out by the so-called Kochen-Specker theorem. A distinguishing feature of the Kochen- Specker theorem is that it applies to individual systems, systems for which quantum entanglement does not exist.
