Vamshi is from Hyderabad, India. He studies master’s programme in Communication Systems at KTH, Kista campus. What made you choose KTH and Stockholm / Sweden?
While pursuing a Master's in India, I was particularly interested in the telecommunications field. When it comes to the telecommunications field, there are very few universities in the world that offer studies aligned with industrial research. KTH being the best and most well-reputed university in Europe was the easiest pick. The alumni of KTH are so strong that the technical students and researchers are reaching great heights in industries.

Even though Swedish is the official language, almost everyone can speak English. Sweden is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Swedes are very friendly and supportive. Stockholm is also one of the best-connected cities using public transport.

What do you like most about your programme?
The Master's programme in Communication Systems offers three tracks – internetworking, security, and wireless networking. All three tracks focus on solving real-world problems in the telecommunication field. All of the necessary theoretical knowledge is taught in the class, and you solve real-world technical problems by participating in the lab, completing the projects, and solving the assignments. Of course, the best-qualified faculty are available to help you at every point.

What do you like most about KTH?
The best part of KTH is that during the courses you can meet, interact with, and learn from students of different programmes, different teachers, students from other universities, and sometimes from representatives from industries. At KTH you not only learn to solve advanced technology issues, but also learn about teamwork, management, and bringing your product/research to the market.

What do you like most about being here?
The best part of being at KTH and in Sweden is that you are surrounded by people of different countries, different cultures, and different backgrounds. You can discover new things by learning from them and sharing ideas. Along with this, you can enjoy lovely beaches, beautiful summers, parties, music concerts, and much more.

What are your impressions of Stockholm and Sweden?
I feel Sweden is the nature lover's dreamland. Even when you are living in a city like Stockholm, you can easily find a lovely beach, a beautiful park, or just take a ferry and reach an island in the Stockholm Archipelago. Everyone here in Sweden takes care of environment. It runs deep in Swedish culture, with active participation in recycling and public transportation.

What is your best memory from your time at KTH so far?
For me, the welcome activities organized by KTH are the best memories so far. KTH provided the bus service to come to the university from the airport, a BBQ party, a fireworks show, a welcome reception at Stockholm City Hall, and many more fun activities. All of these activities with my new international friends made my transition phase from my home country to Sweden go very smoothly.

Are there any differences between studying at KTH and your home university?
Courses here at KTH are not about writing some exams and passing them; it's all about a practical approach. The syllabus is constantly updated to current standards, and you will be learning about the next generation of real-world problems. There's a friendly atmosphere between teachers and students that makes learning a lot easier.

What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?
I would say that this will turn out to be your best decision. A Master's programme at KTH is not only about learning technical issues, and it also gives all-round development in management, teamwork, and marketing your business plan. Sweden is the start-up nation, and if you have a business idea, KTH is the best platform for turning that idea into reality.
